Arsene Wenger has claimed that talks with Mesut Oil are still ‘very much alive’, with the German yet to confirm he will stay with Arsenal or leave the club as his contract runs down.
Arsenal face a tricky test on Sunday as they travel to place Bournemouth in the Premier League. Their hosts are currently sitting in 17th in the league with 21 points, just a single point above Stoke City in 18th-place. Eddie Howe’s men clearly need to start winning soon, and they will be well aware that if they can hit Arsenal early on, then they could get something out of the game.
Arsenal on the other hand are looking to move back into the Champions League spots with Liverpool in fourth, five points clear of the Gunners. It is clear that they will need their best players to be on top form in order to attain a place in Europe’s premier competition for next year, and that may be vital to keeping the likes of Mesut Ozil.
Despite a lot of speculation surrounding Ozil, Arsene Wenger has claimed that talks with the player are still ongoing. The Sun reported that he said: “We are still speaking with Mesut and those talks are very much alive. There is still an opportunity for him to stay and I am more optimistic about that than I was in the summer”.
“It looks like Sanchez will not extend his contract but we want to keep Jack Wilshere and, maybe if we keep Ozil, the rebuild will be less deep than if we lose all three”.
Ozil’s future has been something that has dominated the headlines this season, but he may yet stay at Arsenal as the talks between the club and player are ongoing.
