Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal have not received any bids for Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean forward has been linked with a move to fellow Premier League side Manchester City, but there has apparently been no approach for the player yet despite his contract ending in the summer.
Arsenal face a very tough test in their next game as they travel to face Chelsea in the first-leg of their semi-final in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. The last match between the two ended in an enthralling 2-2 draw in what was one of the games of the season. There was a glut of goals, big challenges and moments of controversy as the spoils were shared in the game.
Arsene Wenger will be desperate to leave Stamford Bridge with an advantage, but he will, of course, feel that a respectable scoreline in the first-leg would give them a huge chance of progressing to the final from their second-leg at the Emirates Stadium.
Alexis Sanchez is likely to play a major role in the game as the Chilean has been in far better form of late. However, there are still big question marks over his future, but Arsene Wenger has claimed that the club has not received any bid for the forward.
When asked whether they had received a bid for Sanchez or if he thought the player would leave in January, Wenger answered by saying “No”.
“I expect nothing. I am focused on tomorrow’s game. When solicitations happen you respond to it. At the moment it’s very quiet. I have nothing to add. What is the most important thing is to be professional and to perform no matter what the environment is. ‘It’s not a big influence on the performance of our team”.
Wenger’s focus seems to be solely on their next game, with the Carabao Cup the only domestic trophy they can still win, but it remains to be seen whether City will return with a bid for the player that may prove to be too good to reject.
