It’s been a long old season for Arsenal Football Club, but on Saturday night, they will face arguably their toughest and most important test to date when they square off with Manchester City at Wembley. The two giants of English football will be competing for a place in the final of the FA Cup, which is a competition both sides have been able to thrive in over the course of the last decade or so.
You never really know what is going to happen in a game of this magnitude, but today, we’re going to try and put forward our own prediction as the Gunners lock horns with one of the most dominant sides in world football.
Inconsistency has been the biggest issue for Mikel Arteta’s men to try and overcome since the restart, and against a team like City, they simply cannot afford to let their guard down. They have to really try and get at last season’s Premier League champions, because if they don’t, they won’t earn their respect. We saw the team defend valiantly against Liverpool in their last outing, and with that game still fresh in the mind of fans around the globe, you’d have to imagine they’re capable of keeping City at bay too.
Now that their European ban has been overturned there are two clear objectives for Manchester City this season: win the FA Cup and win the UEFA Champions League. While the former should be a whole lot more simple than the latter, it’s not like they haven’t struggled at times since the restart with both Chelsea and Southampton putting them to the sword. They have to impose themselves early on in this game, because if they don’t, they run the risk of giving Arsenal confidence.
We’d love to be able to say that we think Arsenal can get the job done, but realistically, this is City’s game to lose. There is definitely a path to victory for Arteta’s side but when you consider how frail they tend to be straight after a top performance, there are plenty of reasons to believe that this isn’t going to be pretty.
We sincerely hope that we’re proven wrong and they cause the upset, but in terms of an official prediction, we’re going to say that City will ease towards a 3-1 victory to secure their spot in the final.
Can Arsenal pull off the upset?
