January transfer window is approaching hard, and clubs around England and the rest of Europe are contemplating various deal for fresh additions to their respective squads. Not that they are idle at other times around the year, but it’s a specially busy time for media outlets as they try and work out which player might leave his club and where he could go, often inventing things in the process.
Apart from Aaron Ramsey possibly being sold in a cut-price deal for the club to avoid losing him for free, there aren’t any news or rumours when it comes to players to leave Arsenal this winter. Also, Sky Sports have revealed the club’s head of football Raul Sanllehi said he expects a quiet January as he considers the window only to be used in an emergency. But let’s take a look at some possible incoming deals.
With Danny Welbeck out of the picture, it might be a good idea to at least consider adding to the attacking ranks, and multiple reports have recently linked Arsenal with the Lille winger. The 23-year-old might not be exactly a like-for-like replacement for Welbeck, but he would certainly represent a decent attacking option.
He probably wouldn’t come cheap though, but he has been on impressive form this season.
Arsenal’s defence has often been criticized this season and rightly so, given they’ve only managed to rack up two clean sheets in 12 Premier League rounds so far.
Manchester United’s Eric Bailly has fallen out of favour with manager Jose Mourinho and is reportedly looking for a way out. He is a decent defender, and for a reasonable price it might be good if he came to spice up the competition for Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papasthatopoulos and Rob Holding. Daily Record say the Gunners are very interested in his services.
It should be said that Laurent Koscielny is nearing his long-awaited return from injury, and pairing the captain up with Bailly seems like an interesting prospect in terms of improving the back line.
Daily Express claim it’s actually Daniele Rugani of Juventus who Arsenal want, while Spanish media report they’ve been looking at Espanyol’s Mario Hermoso.
There is also a report by Football.London that the club have been monitoring the progress of 18-year-old Sebastian Walukiewicz, a Polish defender playing for Pogon Szczecin.
