As David Ornstein repeatedly claims, Arsenal remain on the hunt for an attacking midfielder. Mesut Ozil has gone to Turkey where he will be playing for Fenerbahce after having his contract terminated, but manager Mikel Arteta obviously feels the team needs a player of similar qualities. If you remember, the pursuit of Houssem Aouar came to nothing towards the end of last summer’s transfer window, and although a number of reports since suggested that the interest would soon be reignited, there has been no further developments.
One player Arsenal are reportedly interested in that aspect is Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia. However, when asked directly about the possibility of a deal going ahead this month, Canaries boss Daniel Farke made it perfectly clear it would make no sense for his club to sell a key player at this point. So much so, that even though he understandably admitted that nothing is ever completely certain in the transfer market, he rated the chances of the 24-year-old staying at Carrow Road this month at 99%.
Elsewhere, Arsenal technical director Edu has expressed the club’s concern regarding Lucas Torreira. Having lost his place in the team, the Uruguayan midfielder joined Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan on the final day of the summer window.
However, he still isn’t getting the game-time he needs and Arsenal want him to be getting. He has so far started only two La Liga games, with five more appearances off the bench.
“The situation is very simple,” Edu told Spanish publication AS.
“Arsenal is concerned about Torreira, his happiness, that he plays and that he is well. We want to know about him how he feels and, later, of course, know what Atlético thinks.
“For us, Lucas and his happiness is what more important. If everyone is happy, we will continue like this, if Lucas is not well, we will look for a change because there are many teams that are calling me to ask about the player’s situation, “
