Arsenal are still interested in Christopher Nkunku of Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in France.
The 21-year-old, turning 22 in November this year, has spent his entire professional career at the Parc Des Princes. He is primarily a central midfielder, though his powerful bursts of pace render him quite capable of deputizing on either attacking flank. He was involved in the Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting incident last weekend as the former Stoke City striker thoroughly embarrassed himself by failing to hit the gaping net from the goal-line itself, and actually clearing the effort of Nkunku off the line.
The Gunners are slowly but inevitably preparing for life after Aaron Ramsey. As you know, the Welshman has agreed a deal to join Serie A title holders Juventus when his contract expires this summer. Having spent over a decade at the Emirates, Ramsey will certainly be missed – a fact highlighted by the way his great performance and opening goal helped the team beat Napoli by 2-0 in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal clash.
Since his arrival, Unai Emery has already signed Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi to add to the existing numbers in the middle of the park, but Ramsey is arguably Arsenal’s most creative midfielder at the moment and replacing him will not be easy.
Be that as it may, the signings of Torreira and Guendouzi indicate the start of a new midfield project, one which could give a player like Nkunku a chance to shine. The club wanted to do a deal to bring him to north London but PSG refused point-blank to even consider it. Now, according to Le Parisien, Arsenal are willing to have another go and do what they can to make the deal happen this summer.
