The Gunners are alleged to be bolstering their backline with the likes of Per Mertesacker potentially leaving in the summer, while Laurent Koscielny isn’t getting any younger at age 31.
Calum Chambers has failed to force his way into the starting lineup and was loaned out to Middlesbrough as a result, while Gabriel Paulista has been on the periphery this season too so there is a void for competition in the defence. Vitor Hugo is 25 and wouldn’t break the bank, but a deal to sign him won’t be without complications.
Reports suggest Palmeiras only own half of the player’s rights, while club sponsor Crefisa own 50%. Arsenal are rumoured to be considering completing a deal in January, but it may not be until the summer until they make headway.
Arsenal aren’t in any immediate rush to strengthen the defence given they have options available to them this season, but manager Arsene Wenger is clearly thinking ahead with players in the eve of their careers.
