Arsenal are still interested in signing Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina this month, according to Sky Sports, and they would be willing to push for a deal if it proves financially viable, despite the Serbian striker looking likely to remain in Florence for the rest of the season.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted recently his squad is looking rather thin in the striker department, which is quite obvious, really. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang currently at the African Cup of Nations and his status at the club still to be decided on later, and with the contracts of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah approaching their mutual expiration date at the end of the season, the horizon will continue to look very dark unless new signings are made soon.
Vlahovic has been putting in impressive numbers at the Italian club lately. Last season, he scored 21 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions, and now he’s well on course to better that with 18 strikes from 22 matches in 2021-22 so far. At the age of 21, he would likely complement the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard very well over the coming years.
However, the transfer of Vlahovic, who has seven goals in 14 caps as a Serbia international so far and played a big part in his country’s successful World Cup qualifications campaign, isn’t going to be easy to complete. There will be other clubs interested as well, and it seems Vlahovic himself is only interested in moving to a club which plays in the Champions League. The Gunners haven’t been there for a while now, but at the moment, they appear to be in with a proper chance of a top-four finish.
Vlahovic is still likely to leave Fiorentina in the summer, when his contract with the Serie A side reaches its final 12 months, but it seems he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of signing a new deal either just yet.
