According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Marseille central midfielder Morgan Sanson, as Gunners boss Unai Emery attempts to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.
However, it seems that Arsenal are not the only club in north London eying the France under-21 international, as Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Sanson.
Agent confirms interest from north London giants
Sanson’s agent Michael Manuelle has confirmed that both clubs are interested in signing the 23-year-old midfielder. Manuelle told Foot Mercato: “Tottenham really follow Morgan, Arsenal follow him too”.
“Now I do not know what Unai Emery will want. Chelsea will not advance more than that [their interest]. They will go on to other things.”
It seems Manuelle is doing his job of selling the midfielder pretty effectively at the minute.
Arsenal looking for a central midfielder
It seems that Arsenal have made signing a central midfielder one of their summer priorities. The link with Morgan Sanson is therefore understandable. Sanson is highly-rated in France and enjoyed a good campaign for OM, scoring ten goals in 50 appearances in all competitions.
He helped French side to fourth-place in Ligue One and to the Europa League final, where they suffered a defeat against Atletico Madrid.
With the future of England central midfielder Jack Wilshere is doubt, it seems the Gunners are covering themselves just in case they need to strengthen in centre of the park.
Another central midfielder linked with Arsenal in recent days is highly-rated Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira. The Uruguayan international will be at this summer’s World Cup after a standout season in Serie A.
Reports suggest that Gunners boss Emery is a big fan of the 22-year-old and that talks have taken place with the Genoa-based outfit over a transfer. Torreira has a €25million release clause in his contract, so his current club are powerless to stop the midfielder from moving elsewhere.
The Gunners are likely to face competition for the midfielders signing with both Dortmund and Napoli also admirers of the midfielder.
Emery is a shrewd operator
Arsenal boss Unai Emery is a shrewd boss when it comes to transfers. While he may not be the only one involved in transfers, the Spaniard will have a major say in who arrives at the club.
Emery has played his part in his previous clubs snapping up some bargains in the transfer market. Hopefully, he can do the same at Arsenal and it can lead to a change of fortunes in the near future.
