The landscape of Arsenal Football Club is an ever-changing one, and it’s kind of hard to keep track sometimes – especially at such a late point in the campaign. However, while the finish line may be in sight for this season, a lot of folks are already looking ahead to the next. Unlike the NFL there’s not all too much time between domestic leagues finishing and then starting up again, although it might feel like longer this year because we don’t have an international tournament to get excited about.
Anyway, with all of that out of the way, it’s time to talk about Djene Dakonam who is said to be Arsenal’s latest target (according to AS). The 27 year old Getafe defender has been creeping onto the scene over the course of the last few years, and now, he finally seems to have grabbed the attention of a major European club. Despite the fact that he’s moving towards his late 20s, it still feels like this kid has a long way to go and a lot of potential left to fulfil in the beautiful game.
Of course, we could go on about the ins and outs of his abilities forever, but that’s not really what we want to do. Instead, what we want to do is applaud manager Unai Emery for his own ability to scout out players that other teams may not even be thinking of going after yet. Sure, that makes it sound like we’re applauding him for something that a lot of managers are capable of doing, but it deserves to be recognised nonetheless.
The Djene effect
Djene may not be the answer to some of Arsenal’s defensive woes, but the French boss is clearly already thinking about the future which is much better than just putting all of your attention into the here and now. Some could argue that he’s distracted, but the current international break offers up the perfect opportunity for him to take a bit of a step back and analyse his squad as a whole.
Many fans often can’t wait until the summer transfer window opens, and for the first time in a long time, we actually agree with them. There are many intriguing possibilities on the table, and we already saw what Emery is capable of during last year’s summer window.
Do you think Arsenal will bring in more than four new players during the summer transfer window?
