People in the top positions at the club still believe Unai Emery is the man to take Arsenal forward, though he has now been given a warning – the results must be better than this.
Following a string of poor results, the latest one being a 2-0 defeat away to Leicester City, Arsenal sit in sixth place with 17 points to their name, which is eight less than Manchester City who are now fourth after losing away to Liverpool. That is the gap between where the Gunners are now and where they want to be come may.
Eight points. Certainly not impossible to overcome during the long course of the remaining part of the season, but this is now Manchester City we’re talking about, while Leicester and Chelsea appear to be they’re going through just the kind of progress Arsenal currently dream of.
Naturally, given the results and everything that has been going on off the pitch – mostly regarding Granit Xhaka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the captain’s armband, the manager has come under severe scrutiny and some are calling for him to be sacked.
However, those who actually make those kinds of decisions are still keen on seeing this team turn the fortunes around and see Emery as the man to make it happen.
As reported by Sky Sports, head of football Raul Sanllehi and managing director Vinai Venkatesham met with over 200 members of the Arsenal staff on Monday, and they once again expressed strong support for the manager. They expect the results to improve and claim to be just as frustrated as anyone else with what they’re seeing at the moment. They are aware of the need for improvement in order for the season goals to be met, but in their view, Emery is the right man to make it happen, along with his backroom staff.
