Arsenal go in for James Rodriguez?

Posted on January 23, 2019 by Harry Kettle

The rumour mill is going to be churning out a variety of different names pretty thick and fast over the course of the next eight days or so. That much is to be expected, and we just have to kind of deal with it. However, while we’d usually try and avoid stories that seem outlandish, the name James Rodriguez crossed our desk – and we haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.

Could it be?

The 27 year old Colombian has had a tough few years to say the least, as he’s been unable to fully capitalise on his sensational performances for his country back at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The attacking midfielder is currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Real Madrid, but even after being connected to two such mammoth clubs, it doesn’t feel as if he’s truly happy.

That might just be us hoping that he’s really thinking about a move away from the two sides, but there’s certainly an element of truth to it at the very least. James has been linked with the Premier League in an ‘on and off’ kind of way throughout the course of his entire career, and now, it seems more viable than ever that the door could be open for him to test the waters here.

Wishful thinking?

Arsenal could use someone of his flair, and when you consider just how good he’s been in the past, it makes you wonder what a fresh change of pace could do for him. Sure, it may prove to be an absolute bust, but the same thing could be said of any other transfer ever made. You don’t know what’s going to happen until you try, which is why we think Emery could throw all of his eggs into the James basket here.

They’d have to try and negotiate a deal in which he comes over on loan, of course, due to the circumstances surrounding Arsenal’s current situation. Even so, the promise of potentially signing him in the summer could be enough to lure him to the Emirates.

If they can get this done, it certainly feels like it’d be on the same kind of scale as when Mesut Ozil arrived in North London.

Do you think Arsenal can realistically sign James Rodriguez?
