Arsenal face a fight for French star Loic Remy

Posted on April 30, 2014 by David Nugent

QPR and France striker Loic Remy is believed to be a £15million target for Arsenal, but the Gunners are not the only team interested in acquiring the striker. According to the Mirror, German giants Bayern Munich are set to bid £15million for the on-loan Newcastle striker.

Champions League

The Gunners are close to sealing their place in the Champions League for next season and are odds of 1/100 to make it into the top four this season. Qualification for Europe’s elite competition means that the Gunners will receive a cash windfall, which will most likely be added to boss Arsene Wenger’s transfer kitty.

Competition

Arsenal’s need for another striker has been evident for much of the campaign and Wenger looks set to finally strengthen his attack this summer. Loic Remy is believed to be one of the Gunners main striking targets.

Remy has also been linked with moves to Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle. The striker would be likely to snub a move to all three of those clubs, in favour of a move to the Emirates, as the Gunners can offer the French international Champions League football next season.

However, Bayern Munich would provide stiffer competition for the Gunners in the race to sign Remy. Bayern may have gone out of the Champions League to Real Madrid on Tuesday night, but Pep Guardiola’s side will still be a big draw for any player.

Alternative

Ironically, Bayern are looking to sell Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic this summer and attempt to build a new strike-force for next season, with Dortmund star Robert Lewandowski already signed for next season.

Mandzukic will be pushed down the striking pecking order at Bayern next season and is believed to be on Arsenal’s wanted list this summer.

Mandzukic would not be a terrible signing for the Gunners, although the striker has many of the same qualities as current first choice Gunners striker Olivier Giroud. Remy would definitely provide Arsenal with a new dimension in attack.

Remy would provide Arsenal with the mobility and pace that Giroud lacks, although winger Theo Walcott could stake a claim for a striking spot next season, when he recovers from injury.

Needed

Olivier Giroud has had a decent season for the Gunners, but he has virtually carried the Gunners attack on his shoulders this season. The French international has played the majority of Arsenal’s games this season and at times has looked tired.

Arsenal are in need of an extra striker and Remy would no doubt be a good signing. However, if the Gunners lose out to Bayern in the race for the QPR striker, I am sure that the Gunners have other forward targets this summer

Would Loic Remy be a good addition to Arsenal’s strike-force?
