The fourth round draw for the FA Cup has been made, and while Arsenal should fancy themselves on any given day against any side in the draw, we think it’s safe to say that they aren’t going to be too pleased about this one. The Gunners have been drawn against Manchester United, as both sides prepare to battle it out for a place in the fifth round of the competition.
Old foes meet again
It’s not exactly a secret that Arsenal would’ve wanted a nicer tie, if only because it would’ve given them the chance to rest players again. That doesn’t sound like a club who are willing to take on all comers, but let’s face it, they need to rotate sometimes. The Premier League and the Europa League will be viewed as being more important competitions and that’s just a fact, because those are the two opportunities Arsenal have to work their way back into the Champions League.
Plus, you’ve got to consider the fact that Manchester United are currently in the midst of a fantastic run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The temporary boss has been able to breathe new life into the Red Devils, to the point where some fans even believe they can still fight for a place in the top four. While that seems a little ‘out there’ given the quality of both Arsenal and Chelsea, you just never know.
Weighing it up
The fans certainly wouldn’t mind seeing an extended cup run, either, and we wouldn’t be shocked to see Ole put out a strong side in this one. They have no real reason to be afraid of Arsenal and they’ve got good strength in depth, so if any major injuries come their way, then the chances are that they’ll be able to deal with it.
We’d like to think Arsenal will make their way through to the next round of the FA Cup but if they don’t, all we can hope for is that there’s no replay. Replays are the worst thing in football unless you’re a lower league team hoping for a payday, and one extra game on the schedule would be a nightmare for Emery’s side.
