According to talkSPORT, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are interested in Marseille’s Christopher Rocchia. The 19-year-old has reportedly been scouted by Gilles Grimandi, which could lead to the Gunners making an approach when the January transfer window opens.
Little is known about Rocchia, but the young left-back was believed to have made the final of the French youth cup with Marseille (Coupe Gambardella), but his long-term future with the Ligue 1 outfit is in doubt with his contract up next summer.
Marseille’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is trying to tie Rocchia down to a new three-year professional deal, but negotiations have stalled in recent months. Arsenal are one of many top European clubs keen on the teenager but no official bid has been made.
Arsene Wenger may be planning for Nacho Monreal’s retirement with his latest interest in a young left-back, although Sead Kolasinac has plenty of years ahead of him. Rocchia would certainly be one for the future, but the Gunners will have competition for his signature.
Nevertheless, he’s highly-rated and wouldn’t break the bank given his deal will be up in less than 12 months. Arsenal would be able to agree on a pre-contract deal in January, although convincing the left-back to snub such European giants is the real trick of all.
