Arsenal defeat Brighton in the FA Cup

Arsenal made it through to the fifth round of the FA Cup by winning 3-2 at Championship Brighton on Sunday in an entertaining encounter.

Arsenal enjoyed the perfect start to the game taking the lead after only two minutes. Calum Chambers got down the wing and found winger Theo Walcott in the area. The England international controlled the ball before driving an effort superbly past David Stockdale.

On six minutes Aaron Ramsey saw an effort from the edge of the area deflect wide of goal by a Brighton defender. On 21 minutes Gunners midfielder Tomas Rosicky saw an effort go wide of goal from just outside the penalty box.

On 24 minutes the Gunners doubled their lead. Rosicky played in Mesut Ozil and the German fired low past Stockdale from inside the penalty area.

Brighton had their first attempt on goal on 30 minutes, as Sam Baldock fired just wide of goal from inside the penalty area. On 35 minutes Seagulls midfielder Jake Caskey-Forster fired well over from long-range.

On 37 minutes Arsenal had a penalty appeal turned down, as Brighton full-back Bruno Saltor appeared to handle the ball inside the penalty area, after Theo Walcott had fired in an attempt on goal.

Brighton got a goal back on 50 minutes. Striker Chris O’Grady turned inside the area and fired an effort past Wojciech Szczesny in the Arsenal goal. On 56 minutes Brighton had a penalty claim turned down, as Inigo Calderon went down in the penalty area.

The Gunners made it three on 59 minutes, as Olivier Giroud played the ball to Rosicky on the edge of the penalty area and the Czech fired a superb effort past Stockdale. On 63 minutes Olly March found O’Grady, who fired well wide of goal from 25 yards out.

On 67 minutes Stockdale got down well to deny an effort from Theo Walcott from the edge of the penalty area. The home side got back in the game on 75 minutes, as Sam Baldock was put through one-on-one with Szczesny and the forward kept his head to dink the ball over the out-rushing Polish international.

On 81 minutes Stockdale produced a superb low save from substitute Chuba Akpom, after the youngster was played in by fellow substitute Alexis Sanchez. Three minutes later and Sanchez saw a free-kick from just out the area take deflection and hit the upright.

On 86 minutes Brighton had another penalty appeal turned down as Chambers appeared to handle the ball inside the Gunners penalty area. In stoppage-time Stockdale produced a good save from a free-kick by Alexis Sanchez from distance.

The Chilean also hit a free-kick onto the top of Stockdale’s goal. There was still time For Aaron Ramsey to fired wide of goal from inside the area, after miscuing his effort his effort on goal. That effort was the last of the game as the Gunners progressed to the fifth round of the competition.
