Arsenal and Chelsea EFL Cup semi-final preview

On Wednesday night, Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium, in the semi-final first leg of the Carabao Cup. The two teams played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Stamford Bridge, so it is all to play for in this clash.

The home side head into this game on the back of a morale-boosting 4-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday. The victory was just the Gunners second in their last eight games in all competitions.

Arsene Wenger’s side have been involved in a number of goal-filled games, as both teams have scored in seven of the Gunners last eight outings in all competitions.

Arsenal are unbeaten in six games in all competitions, recording four wins in the process. The Gunners have also scored two or more goals in four of those aforementioned six games.

Chelsea recorded a 4-0 win at Brighton Hove Albion in their last top-flight outing. The victory ended a five-game run of draws for the Blues in normal time. Antonio Conte’s side’s recent games have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five competitive games.

The Blues have been in decent recent away form, losing just one of their last nine games on their travels in all competitions. The visitors also have a good recent defensive record on their travels of late, conceding just two goals in their last four away games, while keeping three clean sheets.

The Blues have failed to beat Arsenal in the last four competitive meetings. However, the last three games between the pair have finished in draws. The Blues have in fact won just one of the last six meetings with the Gunners.

Team News

Arsenal heads into this game with a number of injury worries. Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud are ruled out due to injury once again. Midfielder Aaron Ramsey and defender Nacho Monreal are doubts, while new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan is cup-tied.

Chelsea have a number of injury doubts heading into this clash. Thibaut Courtois, Andreas Christensen, Gary Cahill, Danny Drinkwater and Cesc Fabregas are all doubts for the clash. New signing Ross Barkley could make his debut for the Blues.

Betting News

Chelsea are favourites to win this clash at odds of 29/20, while Arsenal are odds of 2/1 and the draw is odds of 5/2.

The Gunners produced a solid defensive display in the first leg. However, they will have to show more going forward to progress to the final.
