Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Jonny Evans from fellow Premier League side West Brom as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his options in defence, with an apparent £25 million price-tag touted.
Arsenal’s last Premier League game ended in an enthralling 2-2 draw with Chelsea as the two London sides played out one of the games of the season so far. The match was a great advert for the Premier League with goals, saves and moments of controversy, but, unfortunately for the Gunners, it saw them drop points.
After 22 games, Arsenal have picked up 39 points, two short of Tottenham in fifth, and five short of Liverpool in the final Champions League spot. With Manchester City 23 points ahead of Arsenal, their season-long objective will now be to return to Europe’s premier competition, and they have a huge job on their hands to do so with the gap between themselves and fourth growing.
Perhaps delving into the transfer market will help to relieve some of the pressure on the side. Indeed, according to The Sun, Arsenal are on the verge of agreeing a deal worth £25 million to bring West Brom defender Jonny Evans to the Emirates Stadium.
The centre-half, formerly of Manchester United, would provide another defender to Arsenal’s ever-changing backline, with the defence in need of stronger leadership. Perhaps Evans is the man to solve Arsenal’s problems then, with their backline often letting the rest of the team down.
