Arsenal have reportedly been in the market for German U21 international Matthias Ginter before, but it does appear they are renewing their interest in the Freiburg player.
According to The Sun, Arsenal are close to sealing a deal to sign the 19-year old centre-back. After the side loaned out Francis Coquelin to Freiburg, it was expected that the German league side would sell Ginter as per the arrangement. However, he’s yet to leave, but could be on his way to the Emirates soon.
Last season, Ginter made 23 Bundesliga appearances, scoring once. The 6 foot 1 German can also play as a midfielder.
His asking price is around £6M – which has reportedly been matched by the Gunners.
Manager Arsene Wenger has been tracking the 19-year old for a long period of time, but Arsenal’s wait for a big-money signing continues.
With one eye on the 2014 World Cup, Ginter eyes the chance of making the senior national team, and playing for a team of Arsenal’s stature would go a long way to achieving that.
Arsenal fans await the news if Ginter is confirmed an Arsenal player in the coming week, or if the reports of a deal having been agreed is dismissed as pure fabrication.
