Arsenal and Real Madrid are expected to discuss the situations surrounding Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos at the end of the season, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Ceballos joined the Gunners initially in the summer of 2019 on a season-long loan. His fine performances warranted the club to at least try and turn the deal permanent at the end of the agreed spell, but they obviously failed to reach an agreement over it with Real. They were therefore obliged to wait and see if the Spanish giants would be able to sell him elsewhere, before making a move for another loan. Fortunately, no prospective suitor matched Real’s demands and Arsenal were able to bring the 23-year-old midfielder back to north London.
Meanwhile, Odegaard spent the 2019-20 with Real Sociedad. The deal was supposed to last for two years, but having failed to make any signings last summer, Real triggered the option to recall him to the Spanish capital. However, the 22-year-old still wasn’t able to break into Zinedine Zidane’s plans properly, and he eventually asked the club to let him find another temporary destination. It was another strike of good fortune for Arsenal, or so it at least seems at this point, because he is now in north London as well. He has reportedly passed his medical and the official announcement confirming him as an Arsenal player for the rest of the season could come at any moment now.
But the futures of both players remain unresolved at the moment. Neither Ceballos nor Odegaard are likely to find a regular spot at Real when their respective deals with the Gunners run out. Therefore, it is expected that the two clubs will sit down to negotiate once more at the end of this season, though Arsenal’s interest in keeping either of them permanently will depend on how well they do between now and then.
“The [Odegaard] deal is absolutely done and signed, we’re analysing the last details about contracts and medicals and everything but it is done. It will be a simple loan until the end of the season, and then at the end of the season Arsenal board and Real Madrid board will discuss the situation of Martin Odegaard and also Dani Ceballos,” Romano told Que Golazo Podcast.
