This weekend saw Arsene Wenger’s career of managing Arsenal against Manchester United end in typical fashion – with The Red Devils scoring late in the day to break the hearts of the Gunners. Still, it was an encouraging performance from Arsenal in more ways than one, and as they look ahead to next season they can be optimistic provided a new manager comes in that’s able to get the best out of this squad.
With all of that being said, perhaps the biggest story of them all coming out of the game was the tweet sent out by none other than Anthony Martial. The Frenchman took it upon himself to post “Tribute to a legend” followed by a picture of himself with Wenger, and while many will see it as nothing more than a kind gesture, we’re choosing to read into it a little bit more than that.
You see, it’s no coincidence that Martial has posted something like this with just a few games remaining (at least in our minds). It’s all well and good to suggest that he’s just paying his respects, but at the same time, we’ve covered the fact that a move to Arsenal is a possibility. He wanted it a few months ago, and if he’s posting up stuff like this where he’s clearly seen getting cosy with the current boss, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see Wenger make Martial his final big signing before riding off into the sunset.
After all, the comparisons to Thierry Henry are there for everyone to see, and it’d almost be a fitting way for his two-decade tenure to come to a close. Alongside Lacazette and Aubameyang, Martial could fit in perfectly by helping to create Arsenal’s equivalent to Liverpool & City’s attacking forces.
Right now his main priority will be to finish the season strongly with United, but let’s face it, he’s never been truly respected at Old Trafford. It’s always felt like he’s an outsider looking in, and at his age, there’s still plenty more mileage left in the former Monaco superstar.
One thing is for sure – the summer transfer window is going to be the most interesting one in quite some time for the Gunners.
Should Anthony Martial join Arsenal?
