Arsenal contract rebel Alexis Sanchez is set for summer exit amidst contrasting claims regarding his future with Gunners.
Arsene Wenger is confident the Chilean star would remain at Arsenal next season, but such belief rests on restless ground with latest reports coming from a respected Spanish journalist Gerard Romero who shed a new light on Sanchez’s future.
Romero claims Sanchez is set to join Manchester City ‘in the coming days’ and the Citizens have been installed as 6/4 favourites to land the Arsenal star.
Journalist at Spanish media outlet Sport, Romero boasts a strong track record with Manchester City’s transfer in Guardiola’s era having already successfully predicted deals for Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus, Nolito and John Stones long before they were officially announced.
Wenger insisted that selling Sanchez to a Premier League was not an option and any potential move to Etihad would be considered a major blow for the Gunners who would be handing over their arguably best player to direct league competitors.
“You can’t weaken the club and the team you want to strengthen. Unless you find a player of the same caliber if they absolutely want to leave”, Wenger told BeIN Sports earlier this week adding Sanchez (and Ozil) would remain with the Gunners.
“They will stay at the club and hopefully we can extend their contract”, he added.
In addition to the Manchester City link, Alexis Sanchez is being heavily linked with a mega-money deal with Bayern Munich. Reports in Kicker suggest that Bundesliga champions are willing to offer whopping pay rise to the Chilean with well over £7 million a year in offer.
With all of the growing reports it is becoming extremely unlikely that Arsenal super star and the scorer of 72 goals in 145 appearances for the Gunners will be staying in London.
