Ajax star Hakim Ziyech is being linked with a move to Arsenal courtesy of his agent Rene van der Dijp. The Dutch agent has talked about wanting the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool to make a bid for the Moroccan international.
Van der Dijp told Dutch publication Voetbal Primeur: “I hope that there will be a better club than Roma – an Arsenal or Liverpool,” That is a major insult to the Giallorossi, who have a fine history.
Pounds signs in his eyes
Obviously, Mr van der Dijp can see the advantages of his client plying his trade in the English top-flight, both to his client and himself. A move to the Premier League would mean a major pay rise for the attacking midfielder, as well as a big signing on fee.
A move to Roma would be a step up in league for Ziyech, but it would not financially reward the star in the same way a move to a big English club would.
Ziyech has decent stats
Ziyech has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League with Everton, as the Toffees director of football Marcel Brands knew the Eredivisie well from his time at PSV.
The main reason for the link with the Merseysiders was probably his decent stats in the Eredivisie. In three years with Ajax, Ziyech has scored 25 goals and produced 42 assists in 97 appearances in the Dutch top-flight.
However, we have to be careful when assessing players in the leagues like the Eredivisie. Many players have thrived in the Dutch top-flight in recent years and earned moves to the Premier League, then flopped like a jellyfish on a wet mattress in the English top-flight.
Ziyech could well be one of those players. At 25-years of age, he is still in the Dutch top-flight, so maybe he is not that good a prospect. He is undoubtedly talented at his current level, but whether he would make it at a club like Arsenal is unclear.
Emery will choose his own targets
If Ziyech’s agent is anything to go by, the Moroccan international is a player that Arsenal should avoid. I am sure Arsenal boss Unai Emery has his own transfer targets in mind.
The Arsenal boss does not need some two-bit agent offering his players to the club. Emery seems like a shrewd guy and I get the feeling that Ziyech will not be heading for Arsenal anytime soon.
Should Arsenal take a look at Ziyech?
