According to the Birmingham Mail, former-Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby is in talks with Premier League outfit West Brom over a move to the Midlands.
The injury-prone French international was released by Arsenal earlier this month after his contract in north London expired. There was talk of a pay-as-you-play type deal for the midfielder, but in the end he left the Gunners completely.
It seems however that the Baggies are prepared to give the 29-year-old a similar deal in order for him to carry on his career in the Premier League. The move would represent a very minimal risk for the Baggies.
West Brom boss Tony Pulis is believed to be a big admirer of the midfielder once dubbed ‘the new Patrick Vieira’. There is no doubting Diaby’s talent as a footballer, but his fitness has been his Achilles heel throughout his career.
He was regarded as a very promising midfielder star at Arsenal, but every time he looked to be gaining full fitness he would encounter an injury setback.
It would be great to see the midfielder playing regularly in the Premier League in the new season, but history tells us it is very unlikely to happen.
Can Abou Diaby still play Premier League football?
