Arsenal’s Welsh international midfielder Aaron Ramsey has played his last game for the club. The midfielder picked up a hamstring injury against Napoli in the Europa League second leg, which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.
The 28-year-old is, of course, heading to Italy to join Juventus as a free agent in the summer after failing to agree terms on a contract that expires this summer.
Has enjoyed mixed success
In reality, when we look back at Ramsey’s Arsenal career, there have been many highs and lows. The midfielder is clearly talented, but at times throughout his Gunners career, he has struggled to find consistency.
The fact that he has suffered so many injuries during his stay in north London has not helped his momentum. Ironically, Ramsey’s form prior to picking up the injury was relatively bright, although it did not produce floods of goals or assists.
Arsenal no doubt needs a replacement
Ramsey’s departure on a free transfer causes the Gunners a problem. Not only do they need to find a replacement for the Welshman, but they also need to strengthen in other key areas this summer.
The lack of return for Ramsey’s exit does not help matters either. His supposed replacement Denis Suarez has now returned to parent club Barcelona and looks unlikely to return anytime soon. The Spaniard was a quite flop with the Gunners, so the search will likely focus elsewhere for another midfield addition.
With doubts over the Arsenal future of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and despite his protestations of wanting to stay, Mesut Ozil, the Gunners could be short of attacking midfield options for next season.
According to reports, Arsenal boss Unai Emery has made signing a right-side attacker one of his priority signing this summer.
Ramsey would have been an asset over the next couple of games
While Ramsey is not always the most consistent and he is on his way out of the club in the near future, he could have proven a useful asset over the next few games, especially against Valencia in tonight’s Europa League semi-final first leg. Ramsey has the knack of nicking crucial goals.
However, there will be no final hurrah in a Gunners shirt for the midfielder. His Arsenal career will end on a damp squib, a bit like some of the performances he has produced down the years in an Arsenal shirt.
Will Arsenal miss Aaron Ramsey next season?
