A look at what Arsenal need this summer

Posted on April 17, 2019 by Harry Kettle

The summer transfer window is right around the corner, and yes, that does mean time is moving at a ridiculously quick pace – so deal with it. The nature of the transfer window means that there are going to be a series of reports and rumours floating around over the next few months, and for the most part, it’s pretty hard to tell which are legit and which aren’t until someone actually signs on the dotted line. Such is the nature of this crazy game, eh?

So today, we thought we’d stop and take a look at the positions Arsenal may or may not need filling. We aren’t going to go too in depth about it or anything like that, especially seeing as there’s still a good few games left to go in the Premier League and Europa League alike.

However, now seems like as good of a time as any to start thinking about the immediate future. Arsenal, as a club, have been progressing really well over the course of the last few months, and it’d be a shame to see that potential be wasted with the wrong kind of moves being made in the next few months.

Bernd Leno is going to be the number one for a long time to come, but in terms of back-up options, we don’t think there’s much need to go out and look for someone new. Just promote from the youth.

One or two more world class defenders are required in order to get Arsenal to where they want to be. Away from home, especially, the Gunners just seem to switch off and lose their concentration. They need someone with a real focus.

As much as we think Arsenal are thriving in the middle of the park, the impending departure of Aaron Ramsey leaves us wondering whether or not it’s worth going out and finding another world class midfielder. Preferably, we’d want someone in the Vieira-mould who is going to serve as a general.

With Lacazette and Aubameyang leading the line it doesn’t seem like anyone else is going to break into the fold anytime soon. However, if Welbeck doesn’t end up re-signing, we wouldn’t be opposed to Arsenal going out and finding another young and talented forward that could learn from the star two up top.

Which position do you believe Arsenal need to improve the most this summer?
