According to Football.London, Spanish La Liga side Valencia are interested in Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin. The French midfielder has been out of favour in the second half of the season and manager Arsene Wenger might be keen to let him leave as a result. Valencia aren’t breaking the bank this summer, however, and will seek cheap players to strengthen their squad.
Coquelin has made 28 Premier League appearances for the Gunners in 2016/17 but has started only three league games since February, sitting behind Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka in the pecking order. Valencia are reportedly keen on a season-long loan deal for the midfielder and are also targeting Malaga’s Ignacio Camacho.
Arsenal could be parting company with a number of midfielders this summer – Mohamed Elneny and Jack Wilshere are facing uncertain futures at the club. Coquelin has struggled to develop his game past a ball-winning player. He’s been exposed in the middle of the park for his lack of awareness in possession and poor range of passing.
It’s what led Arsenal to sign Granit Xhaka for £32M from German Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach last summer, and the Swiss international has gone on to become a regular in the first-team. Coquelin and Elneny were previously midfield partners only last season but could both be moved on after a disappointing campaign.
