Transfer window is not entirely closed and that’s bad news for Arsenal fans

Posted on September 01, 2017 by Milos Markovic

The Premier League transfer window closed on Thursday night, together with the Scottish, French and Italian markets which all shut at 11 PM on August 31.

However, the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid will have an extra day to complete their transfer dealings as the Spanish FA this year decided to start and finish their summer transfer window a day later that rest of the top leagues.

FIFA rules leave it to individual associations to determine when their windows would start and finish and the Spaniards this year have an additional 25 hours given the fact their window shuts on Friday night.

So, how’s that bad news for Arsenal?

The Gunners have had a frustrating Transfer Deadline Day which saw the London-based club miss out on AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar but the things could get a lot worse if Cadena COPE’s reports turn out to be true.

Namely, the Spanish media outlet is reporting that Barcelona are considering a late bid for Germany international Mesut Ozil given the fact Liverpool are adamant Philippe Coutinho will not be sold earlier than August 2018.

Mesut Ozil has less than a year in his Arsenal deal and Arsenal could lose him on a free transfer next summer which gives Barcelona an upper hand in any possible negotiations for the playmaker.

The Catalans are said to have already submitted an enquiry for the Arsenal star, whereas the Gunners have informed them an offer in excess of £55 million could be enough to land them the German genius.

Former Real Madrid man is still pondering on a £225,000 a week offer from Arsenal, but a new deal for Ozil is not getting any closer thanks to a terrible start to the new season. Sitting deep down in 16th place in the standings with only three points from as many matches, the Gunners are not exactly holding the bargaining chips in their hands.

Ozil’s potential departure would definitely be considered a major surprise and a heavy blow to Gunners’ chances for the new season.

In addition to Ozil and Coutinho, Barcelona are linked with Riyad Mahrez who is currently available at 6/1 betting odds to become a Barcelona man today.

Ozïl can leave, no one cares. He is taking goal scorers like Nelson opportunity. Please Barca come and take him.
