Catalan daily newspaper Sport, usually well informed of everything that happens at Camp Nou, has moved to suggest that Arsenal and West Ham are both ready to offer Thomas Vermaelen an escape route from Barcelona.
The Belgian defender raised a couple of eyebrows as he returned to the club earlier than expected from his holiday, but rather than joining his teammates for pre-season training, he instead resumed his vacation.
According to Sport, Barcelona are ready to listen to offers for his services as he is currently fifth-choice centre-back in the squad, and a summer return to English Premier League could be on the cards. .......Read more here.....

According to Spanish publication Sport, via the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal could be about to make a move to re-sign Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen, who only moved to Catalonia from north London two seasons ago.
The Belgium international has endured a difficult time at the Nou Camp through injury and has made just 21 appearances for the Spanish champions.
Doesn’t stay fit long enough
Vermaelen is a good centre-back when he is fit of course, which has not been often in recent years of his career. Barcelona brought him in to attempt to fill a void at the centre of their defence, but those old injury problems have hampered his career at the Nou Camp. .......Read more here.....

Ex-Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen could line up against the Gunners for Barcelona this week as manager Luis Enrique is forced into making a defensive change. Gerard Pique is suspended for the second leg of Barcelona’s Champions League last-16 clash with Arsenal, meaning either Jeremy Mathieu or Vermaelen will be given the nod to partner Javier Mascherano.
Signed from Arsenal in 2014, the Belgian international still hasn’t managed to claim a regular starting place in the backline, but he’s nevertheless a handy defender to have in the squad given his experience and technical ability. The 30-year-old has made only 10 La Liga appearances this season, amounting to little over 500 minutes of playing time, so it’s more likely Mathieu will start. .......Read more here.....

With Arsenal forced to name a makeshift backline ahead of their weekend against Hull City, does manager Arsene Wenger have to take the blame for not signing sufficient cover?
This summer, Wenger allowed experienced defender Thomas Vermaelen to sign for Barcelona, and prosing youngster Carl Jenkinson to join West Ham on loan, but in return only signed a 19-year-old defender in Calum Chambers.
Arsenal’s first-choice backline of Mathieu Debuchy, Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs only had left-back Nacho Monreal and Calum Chambers as cover. Having such threadbare cover was an accident waiting to happen, and the gamble has backfired. .......Read more here.....
