Arsenal v Lincoln City FA Cup Preview 0

Posted on March 10, 2017 by David Nugent

Arsenal host National League Lincoln City at the Emirates on Saturday evening in the FA Cup quarter-finals, as the Gunners look to avoid a massive cup shock.

Arsenal head into this clash on the back of a 5-1 home defeat against German giants Bayern Munich in the last-16 of the Champions League. The heavy defeat meant that the Gunners lost the tie 10-12 on aggregate and led to more question marks over the future of boss Arsene Wenger. The FA Cup is now the Gunners only realistic chance of winning the silverware this season.

It was a big nigh for Sutton United, but also a rather significant one for Arsenal captain for the night – Theo Walcott.

The England international has been waiting for his 100th Arsenal goal for quite some time and he finally achieved his century as he helped Gunners set up a quarter-final matchup against non-league side Lincoln City following a 2-0 triumph over Sutton United.

Sutton United, on their own part had a couple of chances to surprise Arsenal and should be complimented for their spirited FA Cup performance.

Arsenal travel to the Borough Sports Ground to face National League side Sutton United in the fifth round of the FA Cup tonight, and are big favourites to reach the quarter-finals despite their poor form of late. The Gunners have struggled on the road in recent weeks, and come into this evening’s clash off the back of consecutive defeats, but should make the gulf in class count to ensure there’s no cup upset.

Arsenal defender Rob Holding could deputise for the injured Laurent Koscielny ahead of this evening’s FA Cup fifth round meeting with Sutton United. Manager Arsene Wenger is expected to ring the changes from the side that were heavily beaten 5-1 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and Holding is one player who could be selected as he played 90 minutes in the previous round.

The 21-year-old, who signed from Bolton Wanderers in the summer, has made nine appearances in all competitions this season. Holding has been utilised in the EFL Cup and FA Cup, as well as getting 90 minutes in the Champions League group stage, and could well edge himself ahead of Gabriel Paulista in the Arsenal defence.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is expected to ring the changes for Monday’s FA Cup fifth round clash away to National League side Sutton United, but Danny Welbeck won’t play a part for the Gunners. The English international has been slowly building up his match fitness after recently returning from a lengthy period on the sidelines but cited the plastic pitch of Sutton’s as a reason for his absence.

Arsenal’s defeat in Munich a familiar one 0

Arsenal’s Champions League hopes look to be in tatters after a 5-1 mauling against Bayern Munich in the last-16 first leg on  Wednesday night. The defeat in Munich looks to have ended the Gunners chances of getting to the quarter-final.

The Gunners looked to be very much in the tie when they went in all-square at 1-1 at half-time. However, an injury to French centre-back Laurent Koscielny early in the second half contributed to a disastrous second half performance, as Bayern ripped the Gunners defence apart.
