According to Sport Bild, Arsenal have competition from Barcelona and Manchester United for Leon Goretzka’s signature. Bayern Munich have also been linked with the Schalke midfielder recently and were previously rumoured to have agreed a pre-contract deal. However, such claims turned out to be false.

The German international helped his country win the Confederations Cup in the summer and will be hoping for more opportunities with Joachim Lowe by continuing to impress at club level. Goretzka looks to be running his contract with Schalke without any plans to extend his stay at the Veltins-Arena, so he’ll have a host of suitors in January and next summer.

According to Volker Struth, agent of defender Benedikt Howedes, Arsenal and Leicester City tried and failed to bring the German international to the Premier League on deadline day, reports Sport Bild.

Howedes, now of Juventus, was keen to leave former side Schalke in the summer after being stripped of his captaincy and ended up joining the Serie A giants on a season-long loan. In addition to Arsenal and Leicester, the 29-year-old was believed to have interest from AS Roma too.

In a month where everything seemed to go wrong for Arsenal, summer signing Sead Kolasinac won the Gunners Player of the Month.

In truth, there were slim pickings among the Gunners players for the award. However, the former Schalke player managed to win the award, despite only playing in two of the team’s three league games this season.

The fans vote was maybe a vote of no confidence in the players that appeared in the 4-0 hammering at Liverpool, than a vote of confidence for the Bosnia and Herzegovina star.

Some Arsenal fans may well have criticised Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for his cautious nature over transfers in recent years, but the free signing of versatile Bosnia and Herzegovina defender Sead Kolasinac could be the bargain of the summer.

Kolasinac was the focus of attention for a number of other clubs prior to his free transfer to the Gunners from German club Schalke in the summer. In fact, the likes of AC Milan, Chelsea and Everton were all reportedly looking to sign the defender.

According to German publication Sport Bild, Arsenal could be set to make a summer move for Schalke’s highly rated German international midfielder Goretzka. However, they could face stiff competition for the 22-year-old from Bavarian giants Bayern Munich for the midfielder’s signature.

The young midfielder is gaining a big reputation in European football. Schalke are unwilling to sell the midfielder, despite his contract expiring next summer.

The German club did the same with Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac and the defender joined the Gunners on a free transfer this summer. It seems they are prepared to lose another player for nothing next summer and miss out on a significant transfer fee.

It’s bad news for Arsenal as Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka is expected to remain at the Veltins-Arena next season despite speculation over his future with 12 months left on his current deal. The club’s sporting director Christian Heidel revealed the club’s plans to have Goretzka and Breel Embolo in the side for the upcoming campaign.

“We will go into an exciting season with Breel Embolo and Leon Goretzka,” he said in a recent AGM. Goretzka himself was coy when asked about his future, hinting that he’s open to an exit after this summer’s Confederations Cup. “I’m not going to give state-of-play updates, but if there are facts, I will announce them,” he said.

Arsenal fans were excited to learn that Arsenal have moved to the front row in the race for Sead Kolasinac this weekend.

Still, it turns out that Gunners are not the only club interested in the Bosnia and Herzegovina international as it emerged that Everton, among other clubs, are also interested.

Contrasting reports over the past couple of days appeared linking the player with both Premier League clubs and presenting his case as a done deal, but the new light has been shed on the entire situation by none other than Kolasinac’s father himself.

According to the Independent, Arsenal have agreed a deal to bring Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac to the club in July when his contract expires with Bundesliga club.

The Gunners are reported to have beaten off competition from Everton and AC Milan for the highly-rated Bosnia and Herzegovina international.
Could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal

Despite the fact that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has not officially stated he is staying, this signing suggests that he is, although such a highly-rated player is a no-brain signing whoever the Gunners boss may be next season.
