Arsenal 7/2 to win the Europa League after win in Milan 0

I have to say I was shocked by Arsenal’s 2-0 win over AC Milan in the first leg of the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday night. The Italian giants head into the game in decent form, while morale was low in the Gunners camp.

However, first-half goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey gave the Gunners a very healthy lead for the second leg.

Last chance to make the Champions League

Winning the Europa League is Arsenal’s last chance of getting into the Champions League for next season. The top-four seem too far ahead in the Premier League, so Europe’s secondary competition has suddenly taken on huge significance for the Gunners season.

Arsenal winning the Europa League would be highly surprising 1

As Arsenal went down to their fourth league defeat in five games at Brighton on Sunday all I could think about was that the Europa League is the Gunners last hope of salvaging anything from the season.

The Gunners face AC Milan on Thursday night in the last 16 first leg at the San Siro. It is hard to envisage the visitors gaining a positive result in Milan.

Poor results have bred poor confidence

No doubt confidence is low at Arsenal at the minute. Five defeats in seven games in all competitions tend to have that sort of effect on a team. Teams with low confidence never seem to be able to get anything right.
