Posted on December 12, 2016 by David Nugent

In-form Arsenal head to Merseyside to Everton’s Goodison Park on Tuesday night with the chance to return to the top of the Premier League table, at least for 24 hours anyway.

The home side are in disarray at the moment after a promising start to life under Dutch boss Ronald Koeman. The home side have won just one of their last ten Premier League games, suffering five defeats in the process, including a 3-2 defeat against Watford at Vicarage Road in their last outings.

Japanese striker Takuma Asano one for the future 1

Young Japanese striker Takuma Asano produced a brace in Sanfreece Hiroshima’s 4-2 defeat against Kashima Antlers in the J-League. The 21-year-old has agreed a summer move to Arsenal and the move will be ratified when the youngster undergoes a medical and his international clearance is granted.

The youngster is very much considered one for the future, but his record this season is decent, as he has scored nine times in 21 appearances for his current team. He has scored 27 goals in 93 senior appearances overall.

Unlikely to be playing first team next season

Arsenal 23/10 to sign Belgium and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer 2

Arsenal are favourites with the bookmakers to sign Belgium and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to online bookmakers. With manager Arsene Wenger desperate for a prolific striker, and the side having begun pre-season, time is fast running out for the Londoners to bring in a goalscorer who can gel with the players with enough time to be fully fit for the coming campaign.

Lukaku has long been on the radar of Arsenal, with Wenger having shown a liking to the pace and power of the striker when Arsenal have come up against Everton. The Belgium international memorably scored against the Gunners in a previous Premier League meeting, and Lukaku’s strength proved to be a problem all through the game.

According to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, via Team Talk, Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Everton and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku.

The striker has endured mixed fortunes at the Euros and the report claims that a fee is yet to be agreed, which is likely to be a sticking point when Arsene Wenger and parting with money is concerned.

Decent striker with potential

Romelu Lukaku is certainly a work in progress as a striker, as sometimes he struggles to trap a bag of cement and other times he looks like he is Didier Drogba reincarnated (yes I know Didier is not dead yet, you know what I mean!)

Arsenal’s striker hunt continues following Vardy snub 2

Posted on June 23, 2016 by David Nugent

Arsenal’s hunt for a new striker will continue after it was announced that Leicester and England striker Jamie Vardy has signed a new four-year deal with the Foxes.

The Gunners attempted to sign Vardy prior to Euro 2016 by activating a £20million in his contract and Vardy was believed to be mulling the move over while on international duty with France at Euro 2016.

Bigger and higher expectations at Arsenal

There are probably a few factors that may have made the striker snub a move to north London, but one of them may have been bigger expectations at the Emirates.

According the Metro, Arsenal are interested in signing Everton and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, with even claims that the Gunners have already opened talks with the Toffees about signing the former-Chelsea star.

Lukaku has enjoyed a mixed Euro 2016 with Belgian, producing a poor display against Italy, before scoring a brace against Republic of Ireland last time out.

Is highly-prolific in the Premier League

There is no doubt about it Lukaku is capable of being prolific in the Premier League, as for the past four seasons Lukaku has been impressive in front of goal, despite only being 23-years-old. He was the first player under the age of 21 to reach 50 Premier League goals.

Would Jamie Vardy be a good signing for Arsenal? 0

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is being linked with a move to the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United by Sky Sports. However, the Gunners have been linked with moves for a number of strikers in January, including Troy Deeney and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, surely if the Gunners are interested in Deeney, then a move for Vardy cannot be ruled out. The England international has enjoyed a meteoric rise this season, scoring 15 Premier League goals. He is now joint-top Premier League goal scorer alongside Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.

Arsenal bounced back from their midweek European disappointment by winning 2-0 against Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The game started in a rather slow manner and the first attempt on goal came on 15 minutes, as Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic fired well over the bar from long-range.

The Gunners first real attempt on goal came on 27 minutes. Alexis Sanchez produced a superb cross to find Olivier Giroud, who put a diving header just wide of Tim Howard’s goal. On the half hour mark Kieran Gibbs got a header horribly wrong and the ball went harmlessly over the bar.

Arsenal will look to put that disastrous 3-1 midweek Champions League defeat behind them as they host Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Arsene Wenger’s side suffered the defeat in the first leg of Europe’s elite competition at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night, which has left the Gunners on the brink of leaving the competition.

That European defeat aside, Arsenal have been in good form in the Premier League winning their last six top-flight games. The Gunners have also not lost in their last 20 games against Everton on home soil. However, the Gunners have not won in their last five Premier League games against Everton.
