On Tuesday night, France and Belgium go head-to-head in the first semi-finals of World Cup 2018. Both teams have impressed in Russia so far, but only one can make it through to Sunday’s final.

France

France have not hit their top form of yet in Russia. However, Les Bleus have won four of their five matches at World Cup 2018 and shown flashes of quality in the process. After a reasonably comfortable passage from their group, Didier Deschamps side has beaten Argentina and last time defeated Uruguay 2-0 thanks to goals from Raphael Varane and Antoine Griezmann.

On Thursday night, England and Belgium go head-to-head in the last game in Group G of the World Cup. Both teams have already secured their place in the knockout stages, but the pair are now playing to see who finishes top of the group.

England

England has made an encouraging start to their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 win over Tunisia and a 6-1 mauling of Panama in their group games so far at Russia 2018.

Verdict: England win

Best Odds: 1/4

Bookmaker: Ladbrokes

This game in Group G could decide these two teams’ fates, as a win for the Three Lions could see them qualify for the knockout stages, while a defeat for Panama would see Hernan Gomez’s side exit the competition.

England

England managed to snatch a 2-1 win against Tunisia, courtesy of a stoppage-time goal from Tottenham striker Harry Kane. The effort was his second of the game after opening the scoring in the first half. The England captain has now scored ten times in his last eight international appearances. The striker is no doubt eying up the World Cup Golden Boot.

Should Olivier Giroud have joined Everton last summer? 0

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has endured a frustrating campaign at the Emirates Stadium. In truth, the French international was always going to be back-up to international teammate Alexandre Lacazette this season.

However, the striker has stated that he came close to leaving Arsenal this summer. He told French TV channel Canal Plus: “I had the opportunity to leave [Arsenal],”

“I was very close to another English club, Everton. But I think I made the best choice.”

Should he have joined Everton?

Everton to step up attempts to sign Giroud 0

According to the Metro, Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is considering a move to Everton this summer and is believed to have been in contact with manager Ronald Koeman. The French international looked set to stay after committing his future, but he’s since been linked with a host of clubs and knows he’ll be second-choice to new signing Alexandre Lacazette.

Giroud spent last season third in the pecking order to Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck. He was an effective substitute, however, and turned in an impressive goal tally given the considerable lack of minutes. The 30-year-old scored 12 goals in 11 Premier League starts, scoring and creating 20 goals in all competitions for Arsenal, and has sides ready to bid £20m for his services as a result.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is sending a clear message to the French forward Olivier Giroud with the imminent arrival of Alexandre Lacazette.

The 30-year-old striker who struggled to break into the starting line-up towards the end of last season with Gunners is nearing the end of the road at the Emirates. Having seen his credentials being regularly put to the test, Giroud looks set to pack his bags and move elsewhere during the summer transfer window.

The experienced frontman will have no shortage of suitors and the list of potential new destinations for the Arsenal man is getting longer every day.

Should Arsenal renew their interest in Alvaro Morata? 1

Posted on June 08, 2017 by David Nugent

As always we are set for a whole host of transfer talk and probably little activity at Arsenal if Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has his way anyway.

Arsenal needs to strengthen this summer in a number of departments. For me, a new striker is still needed. It looks likely that Alexis Sanchez may leave and Spaniard Lucas Perez also seems set for the exit door.

That leaves Arsenal with Olivier Giroud and the fragile Danny Welbeck as striking options for next season. One option that could be available is Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard has been linked with a move to north London before and speculation is rife that he will leave the European champions this summer.

Alexis Sanchez can win the Golden Boot 2

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez put himself back into the race for the Premier League Golden Boot on Tuesday night with his brace against Sunderland in a 2-0 victory.

The win was not only vital for his team and kept them in the race for the Champions League spots, but also rather unexpectedly put him back in the running for the Premier League’s top scorer.

Going head-to-head with rival on Sunday

Ironically, the two goals put Sanchez just a goal behind Everton’s Romelu Lukaku on 23 goals. The Toffees forward has struggled for goals of late and has failed to score in his last four Premier League outings.

Would Romelu Lukaku be a viable transfer target for Arsenal? 0

It seems that Everton striker Romelu Lukaku’s future on Merseyside is in doubt after it was revealed on Tuesday that he will not sign a new deal with the Toffees. It means that the Premier League’s top scorer could be available in the summer. The 23-year-old would definitely not be cheap to sign, but maybe he could be the answer to Arsenal’s striker conundrum.

A new striker a good place to start the rebuild

Arsenal fans have felt that the team has needed a top-class striker for the past few seasons. With big changes set to take place this summer, as the squad arguably needs a rebuild.

Gunners stunned by Toffees at Goodison Park 1

Arsenal missed the chance to move back to the top of the Premier League table on Wednesday night, as the Gunners suffered a 2-1 defeat at Everton.

Arsenal had the first real effort on goal on seven minutes. Nacho Monreal found an off-balance Mesut Ozil, who put an effort over the bar. Arsenal took the lead with the next shot on goal on 20 minutes.

Ashley Williams gave away a free-kick on the edge of the area and the resulting free-kick from Alexis Sanchez hit the Welsh international before beating Maarten Stekelenburg in the Toffees goal. On 28 minutes Enner Valencia headed an effort well over Petr Cech’s bar from a corner kick.
