Napoli’s back-up ‘keepers Rafael Cabral and Luigi Sepe are both likely to leave the club at the end of the season, whereas Spanish shot stopper Pepe Reina has come under heavy criticism this term due to some rather shaky performances.

Having realised that he will have difficult time breaking into Arsenal’s first team following the string of injuries that kept him out of action for the most part last season, Jack Wilshere made a surprising decision just a couple of days prior to closure of the summer transfer window.

With new England boss Sam Allardyce deciding to overlook Arsenal midfielder for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Slovakia, the talented yet injury-laden midfielder asked his club to allow him to leave Emirates on loan in order to get regular playing time and get himself back on Allardyce’s radar.

Polish international goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is due to return to Italian club Roma on-loan with a view to a permanent £13.4million deal next summer, according to the Daily Star.

The Poles departure comes as very little surprise to anybody connected with the Gunners. It’s surprising that the deal took so long to happen.

Is still a promising goalkeeper

Wojciech Szczesny is still regarded as a ‘keeper with a lot of promise for the future. At 26-years-old the ‘keeper is nowhere near his prime as a goalkeeper. For a long time, he looked like he would become a top ‘keeper at Arsenal.

Roma are keen on Arsenal ‘keeper Wojciech Szczesny staying in Rome beyond his current loan deal, which expires in the summer. The Polish international was formerly number one at the Emirates prior to the summer arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea.

Szczesny knew his first team opportunities would be limited in north London with Cech and Colombian international ‘keeper David Ospina already in the Gunners squad. The 25-year-old has already expressed his wish to return to Arsenal in the summer and fight for his place.

According to Talksport, Arsenal are set to compete with Italian giants AC Milan for £20million-rated Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli. The highly-rated 20-year-old was being heavily linked with a move to Milan, but it seems the deal has now stalled and Arsenal could step-in.

Milan have reportedly failed to agree to agree a fee with Roma, so he could now be heading elsewhere. Talksport claim that the Giallorossi rate Romagnoli at closer to £25million than the suggested fee of £20million.

According to the Metro and Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal are set to make a move for veteran Italian ‘keeper Marco Amelia.

The 33-year-old is currently plying his trade with AC Milan and told the media: ‘Arsenal? I signed a confidentiality agreement, so I cannot say anything,’

‘I’m still young for a goalie, I’m 33 years old and who knows in the future.’

It will come as no surprise to Arsenal fans that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has stated that he will strengthen his squad this summer. There are still certain areas of the team that are in need of strengthening and hopefully some new faces arrive sooner rather than later.

Wenger confirmed that he will strengthen his squad by telling Sky Sports: “It’s not over, there’s still a long way to go.

Roma to offer £6.9M for Arsenal’s Gervinho 1

Arsenal forward Gervinho is subject of interest from Serie A side Roma. The Italian club have reportedly offered £6.9M this summer, which is yet to be accepted.

The 26-year old was missing from the side’s pre-season tour of Asia, which the club said was because of sickness.

Rudi Garcia, Roma’s new manager, managed the Ivorian during his time at Lille, and is keen on renewing acquaintances for the upcoming season.

While at the Gunners, he scored 11 goals in 63 games. He will regard his time in England as a disappointment, and in contrast to a number of Lille players who have joined the Premier League in recent years – Yohan Cabaye at Newcastle, and Eden Hazard at Chelsea.
