Is there time to get Dembele done? 0

Posted on August 08, 2018 by Harry Kettle

The summer transfer window is set to close much earlier than usual this year, with tomorrow being the new Deadline Day just twenty-four hours before the Premier League actually kicks off. A parade of teams will be hoping to get some last minute deals done in order to bolster their squad and one such team is Arsenal.

The Gunners have already brought in a series of high-profile names throughout the summer in an attempt to improve their chances of finishing in the top four, but is it enough? The answer is probably yes given the depth they have in their squad, but when you’re linked with a name like Ousmane Dembele, it’s hard to pass up that kind of opportunity to try and sign him.

Arsenal are once again being linked with a big-money move for Barcelona’s highly-rated France international forward Ousmane Dembele. According to Football London, Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has made contact with Barcelona about the forward’s availability.

A loan move could be realistic

It seems highly unlikely that Arsenal are going to secure the young forward on a permanent deal, as the Gunners have reportedly already spent their very limited. Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has also ruled out a permanent exit for the France international.

The rumours surrounding the future of Ousmane Dembele don’t seem to be going away anytime soon, and in a way, that’s a good thing. Drumming up this kind of interest for a young star like him will give the guy a great platform with which to build on when he eventually signs for his new club, and while he could always turn around and say that he wants to stay at Barcelona, that doesn’t feel like a realistic move for him to make right now.

Verdict: France Win

Best Odds: 1/4

Bookmaker: Ladbrokes

France will be pleased with the draw, as Les Bleus are not paired with any other European heavyweight. Australia will believe that they have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages ahead of Peru and Denmark. However, this game is a daunting start for the Socceroo’s in Russia.

France

Didier Deschamps squad of players for this summer’s tournament is arguably the most talented. Talented youngsters like Ousmane Dembele and Thomas Lemar join stars of the European game like Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann in Les Bleus squad.

While Arsenal may be going in search of new players to try and take the club to the next level, people are quick to forget that they have a series of high profile stars already that are more than good enough to do some great things with the Gunners. Mkhitaryan, Wilshere, Lacazette & Aubameyang are just a handful of the examples that come to mind, however, the latter of those four seems to believe that Arsenal need to add one more big weapon to their attacking force.

Apparently, Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has liked a Tweet linking Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele with a £87million move to the Gunners.

The Gabon international is a regular on Twitter and caused quite a stir on a number of occasions with his activity. While it is nice that the striker likes the thought of his former teammate joining the Gunners, it looks highly unlikely.

Arsenal reportedly have a limited budget

Reports coming out of Arsenal suggest that the club are only likely to spend around £50million, plus player sales this summer. With defensive reinforcements the priority, it seems unlikely the Gunners can sign enough defensive quality and Dembele, even if they do manage to offload some players.

Arsenal set to target Seri, Evans and Dembele this summer 0

According to the Daily Mail, Jonny Evans, Jean Michael Seri and Ousmane Dembele may all be on Arsenal’s list of transfer targets this summer. Some of those transfer targets are more realistic than others, though.

The Gunners reportedly only have a transfer kitty of around £50million, plus any players, to strengthen a squad badly in need of strengthening. New head coach Unai Emery and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat need to be shrewd in the transfer market to stretch their budget.
