Arsenal’s ageing midfield trio look set to depart the Emirates Stadium this summer with their contracts up at the end of the season and no deals being table to extend their stay into 2016/17. Combative midfielder Mathieu Flamini, deep-lying player Mikel Arteta and industrious playmaker Tomas Rosicky are all out of contract next month, and have made 24 Premier League appearances between them this season.

With Jack Wilshere returning from injury to strengthen a central midfield that includes Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny, there’s no longer a place for Arsenal’s veterans. Arteta and Flamini have proven to be useful when the Londoners were suffering an injury crisis, but Rosicky has been out of action for the majority of the season.

And having spent his entire professional career playing for Arsenal and AC Milan, Flamini could embark on a new adventure and move to the United States at the end of the season.

The Mirror also claims that Gunners boss Wenger is a big fan of Carrick and has tried to sign the veteran former-England star on three separate occassions. With Carrick becoming a free agent this summer, the Frenchman may just make a move for the midfielder.

Carrick will no doubt be in-demand, but a move to another big club like Arsenal could be tempting for the former-Tottenham star.

Once again, the Gunners had a man sent off early on, with Per Mertesacker dismissed for a professional foul on Diego Costa, and the Blues quickly took advantage of the opportunity, with the Spaniard pouncing on a defensive mistake by Gabriel to score what would prove to be the winner.
