Alexandre Lacazette misses out on France’s World Cup squad 1

France boss Didier Deschamps named his 23-man World Cup squad on Thursday. Deschamps has an abundance of talented players to choose from but decided to omit Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette from his squad for Russia 2018.

The decision will have come as a slight surprise for the former Lyon striker after he played in France’s November friendlies, scoring a brace in a 2-2 draw with world champions Germany.

French boss has a lot of attacking talent at his disposal

Deschamps admitted his omission was due to the sheer number of attacking players available to him. The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann and Nabil Fekir were all named in that 23-man squad.

Should Arsenal fork out the money for Karim Benzema? 0

It’s starting to look like Arsenal’s attention may be turning towards another French striker – this time by the name of Karim Benzema. The 30-year-old forward has been attracting interest from all over the globe throughout the majority of his career, but now, certain rumours are suggesting that the Gunners are locked in a battle with Liverpool as they attempt to secure his services this summer.

Benzema has always been a striker who people admire, yet is never considered to be in that elite class, which is similar to someone like Gonzalo Higuain. After spending 13 years of his life in his hometown of Lyon, Karim finally made the big switch to La Liga in 2009 in order to turn out for one of the greatest clubs in world football: Real Madrid.

It seems that Real Madrid may be willing to part company with France international forward Karim Benzema this summer, according to Spanish publication Don Balon. Arsenal has reportedly been interested in signing the striker for the last half a decade.

In fact, according to the media, Benzema has been on the verge of joining the north London club for the last ten transfer windows. Yet he is still in Madrid.

Real Madrid set to sell Benzema this summer

Benzema has been in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo and at times Gareth Bale as well in recent seasons at the Bernabeu. In fact, Benzema has been considered an enabler for Ronaldo to score his huge haul of goals in recent campaigns.

Real Madrid are going through an underwhelming season which is set to be defined according to reigning Spanish and European champions’ success in the Champions League.

With a gapping 17-point deficit keeping Real Madrid locked in third place behind La Liga runaway leaders Barcelona, Florentino Perez is slowly forging a plan to rebuild the Los Blancos squad and present Zinedine Zidane – if the Frenchman manages to keep his job that is – with some fresh blood in key areas.

One of the names that have been under a huge barrage of criticism this season (apart from Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo) is Karim Benzema.

Once again, Real Madrid’s French striker Karim Benzema is reportedly a transfer target for Arsenal. We have been here before, though, haven’t we? Seemingly, every transfer window the Gunners are linked with a big-money move for the striker.

Reports from Spain suggest that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is set to have a clear out after the team’s poor start to their season.

Los Blancos suffered a 2-1 defeat against minnows Girona at the weekend. It seems it may have been the final straw for the not exactly patient president.

Arsenal have embarked upon a very good run of form of late as they have arrested an apparent crisis, which has allowed them to push on in a multitude of competitions.

A 2-1 win over Swansea, courtesy of goals from Sead Kolasinac and Aaron Ramsey, kept their slim hopes of catching Manchester City at the top alive.

In the Carabao Cup, they were also able to claim a win over Norwich, while their Europa League campaign has been taken seriously by Arsene Wenger, with the side currently three wins from three and top of Group H.

Arsenal battled to a 2-1 win over Swansea on Saturday as they maintained their momentum following a very good run of form.

Sead Kolasinac and Aaron Ramsey’s goals were enough to see the London side past the Swans after the visitors had taken the lead through Sam Clucas’ first-half strike.

The latest victory means Arsenal now have 19 points, one short of Tottenham in third, and three clear of Liverpool in sixth. Considering they were in crisis a few weeks ago, they have undergone a remarkable turnaround of late to get their campaign back on track.

Will Arsenal make any more signings this summer? 2

It seems Arsenal is one of the most talked about clubs when it comes to transfer every window. The usual set of rumours is wheeled out as new. Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexander Lacazette all constantly set to sign for the Gunners.

Admission of guilt

All spotted at Euston or Heathrow heading to sign for Arsenal. All these stories are made to sell newspapers and space on websites. I cannot absolve myself from the blame on this issue, as obviously, we speculate about prospective new signings daily.

According to the Guardian, Arsenal have now agreed a deal with Japanese club Sanfreece Hiroshima for young striker Takuma Asano. He will still need to pass a medical and will then the deal will be ratified.

The 21-year-old is highly-rated and is set to be in the Japanese squad for the summer Olympics in Brazil. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has labelled the striker as one for the future, but the big question is will the Gunners sign a more experienced striker this summer?

Seemingly a lack of forward options
