West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis spoke out about Arsenal’s failed bid for Northern Ireland centre-back Jonny Evans, admitted the Gunners didn’t meet the defender’s asking price last summer, reports the Express.

“If Arsenal or Man City had met the valuation it could’ve been different. He has to get his head down and get on with it. I hope we can offer him a new contract and tie him down, we will speak next week about what Jonny is thinking and what he wants to do,” said the 59-year-old.

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal have joined Manchester City and Leicester City in the race to sign West Bromwich Albion centre-back Jonny Evans. The 29-year-old was reported to be a target for the Gunners 12 months but Arsenal failed in their pursuit to procure his signature.

However, they stand a chance of bringing the former Manchester United defender to the Emirates Stadium for the right price. Arsenal are desperate for a centre-back this summer, with Gabriel Paulista being sold to Valencia, while Shkodran Mustafi could be on his way to the Italian Serie A.

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis revealed Arsenal an approach for Manchester City-target Jonny Evans 12 months ago. “He had a chance to go to Arsenal last year. It didn’t affect him in any way,” said Pulis, reports the Express.

“You could say Manchester City are different because they will be hoping to win the title, the Champions league, and the FA Cup. It is difficult. We don’t want to sell him, or need to sell him, we are not desperate to get the money in, so it would have to be a very, very good offer. Then we would sit down and talk to Jonny about the situation,” he added.

Arsenal host West Brom on Boxing Day at the Emirates Stadium, as the Gunners look to get their season back on track following recent disappointing results.

The Gunners’ challenge for the Premier League title has taken a blow in recent weeks, as Arsene Wenger’s side have suffered consecutive defeats. The side from north London will be looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City in their last top-flight outing.

The Gunners started in a positive manner taking an early lead through Theo Walcott, but that was as good as it was going to get for Wenger’s team. Second half strikes from wingers Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling consign the Gunners to defeat.

Reports from the West Bromwich Albion camp suggest defender Jonny Evans won’t be sold this summer, amid rumours that Arsenal are lining up the centre-back as a result of their injury crisis. Evans was said to be a transfer target of the Gunners with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista out of action for a number of months, but Albion manager Tony Pulis is now likely to keep him due to a lack of viable cover.

Defensive crisis at the Emirates got a bit worse last week with an injury to Brazilian stopper Gabriel, who now joins Per Mertesacker on the sidelines with only a couple of days until the new Premier League campaign kicks off.

Germany defender will be out for around five months with a knee injury while the intensity of Gabriel’s injury is yet to be determined. The Brazilian was stretchered off in Arsenal’s 3-2 preseason victory over Manchester City leaving Arsene Wenger with little options at the back.

West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans is not an Arsenal target this summer 0

According to the Mirror, West Bromwich Albion centre-back Jonny Evans is a transfer target for Arsenal this summer. The Gunners are looking for a centre-back to replace the injured Per Mertesacker ahead of the new season, but despite their need for defensive reinforcements, the Northern Ireland international isn’t likely to be on Arsenal’s radar.

Evans can operate as the left-sided central defender and made 30 Premier League appearances in 2015/16. The 28-year-old boasts a lot of experience, having won major honours with former side Manchester United, but Arsenal are expected to target more stellar names to replace Mertesacker. That’s not to say Evans doesn’t have qualities, however.

Arsenal linked with a move for United defender 0

The Daily Mirror are claiming Arsenal could be interested in signing Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, who is rated at around £10million.

The Northern Irish international has apparently fallen out-of-favour with United boss Louis van Gaal after the centre-back was suspended for eight games last season following a spitting incident with Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse.

It now appears the centre-back will move on this summer, with the likes of West Brom and Everton having already been linked with a move for the 27-year-old. However it seems that the Baggies have baulked at his price tag and Everton may have turned their attention elsewhere.

Manchester United vs. Arsenal FA Cup Preview 0

The two most successful clubs in the history of the FA Cup go head-to-head at Old Trafford on Monday night, as Manchester United hosts Arsenal at the quarter-final stage of the historic cup competition.

Manchester United heads into this game having suffered just two defeats in their last 22 games in all competitions. The Red Devils have not been particularly impressive this season though, but in true United fashion have ground out results.

They have a good recent record against the Gunners at Old Trafford, having won their last six home games against the side from north London. The Red Devils have been winning at both half and full-time in their last five games against Arsene Wenger’s side on home soil.
