Former-Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista has had his say on what was a very underwhelming stint in the Premier League with the club, with the centre-half now far happier with current side Valencia as they look to battle for a Champions League place for next season.

Arsenal’s last Premier League game ended in a thrilling stalemate as they held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw. It was a brilliant advert for Premier League football as the breathless game saw both sides sharing the spoils.

Former-Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista has revealed that the Premier League club must look to keep at least one of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil, with the two stars consistently linked with a move away from the team as their contracts expire in the summer.

Arsenal’s last Premier League game ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Chelsea in what was a fantastic advert for England’s top league. The draw has left the Gunners in sixth-place with 39 points, meaning they are five short of Liverpool in the last Champions League place.

Gabriel Paulista joins Valencia for £10m 0

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista has joined Spanish La Liga side Valencia for £10m, after making 64 appearances for the Gunners in two years. The Brazilian centre-back was yet to feature this season as he’s recovering from a knee injury, but manager Arsene Wenger deemed him surplus to requirements given the vast options in his stead.

The 26-year-old joined Arsenal in 2015 from Villarreal for around £15m but never managed to nail down a starting place for a prolonged period of time. With the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding and Laurent Koscielny ahead of Gabriel in the pecking order, chances were always going to be limited. Per Mertesacker and Calum Chambers provide the cover at centre-back, while new-boy Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal can also play in the middle.

Gabriel out for eight weeks with a knee injury 0

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista will be sidelined with a knee injury until next season, manager Arsene Wenger confirmed. “Gabriel is out for six-to-eight weeks. We had a scare about his cruciate, but it is only medial knee ligaments so positive is that he avoids surgery. But of course, he is out now until the beginning of August,” said the Gunners boss to Sky Sports.

It’s a big blow given Arsenal have selections issues in the defence ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup final against Chelsea, with Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny both likely to miss out of Saturday’s game at Wembley. Gabriel lost his place in Arsenal’s starting lineup in the final few weeks of the season but was recalled for the Gunners’ last league outing.

Tottenham performance raises questions over Gabriel 0

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista under-performed in Sunday’s North London derby defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, showcasing poor judgement, a lack of quality in possession and suffering from a lack of confidence. The Brazilian centre-back was brought off in the second-half as the Gunners chased a comeback, but his showing will raise doubts over his long-term future.

With Shkodran Mustafi injured, Gabriel proved to be a good deputy in early performances. But his showing at White Hart Lane was similar to his debut season at Arsenal and not giving an indicator that he’s reliable each week to put in convincing performances at the back. Against Tottenham Hotspur, the 26-year-old failed to make a tackle or interception, instead giving away a penalty and making the joint-most fouls in the squad.

Gabriel could replace Bellerin until the Spaniard recaptures his form 0

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has struggled for form since returning from injury but the Gunners haven’t had viable like-for-like replacements given Mathieu Debuchy has been out in the cold all season while Carl Jenkinson is on the transfer list. Gabriel Paulista has successfully deputised for the Spaniard when called upon in the past and may well get the nod ahead of Bellerin for Arsenal’s next game as a result.

Bellerin could miss Saturday’s Premier League clash against Hull City 0

Despite previously looking a dead cert to start Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Hull City, Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin could now miss the game on the weekend as he’s still not trained this week due to his concussion. The Spanish international picked up the injury in last Saturday’s defeat to Chelsea and was initially told he hadn’t suffered any long-lasting problems. But Saturday’s visit of Hull may have come too soon for Bellerin to make his return.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has provided an update on a number of players who suffered knocks either in the build up or during the game against AFC Bournemouth.

The Gunners had a nightmare start to the clash at Vicarage Road, as they were three goals down at the hour mark, only to produce an amazing comeback and rescue a draw by bagging three goals in the dying 20 minutes.

It would appear as though numerous injuries were partly to blame for the shocking start to the game, whereas the manager also had to make some enforced changes during the clash.

Gabriel challenges teammates to show improvement 0

Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Paulista is well aware of the missed opportunity in defeats to Everton and Manchester City, and he has called on his teammates to wake up and smell the coffee.

Having done so well in the opening exchanges, the Gunners had a good chance to nominate themselves as one of the main contenders for the Premier League trophy, but they instead ended up suffering back to back losses in said games.

The defeats are even more disappointing when we know that Arsenal had the lead in both of those games, and defender Gabriel Paulista, deputising for the injured Shkodran Mustafi, believes his teammates need to do better in months to come.

Wenger happy with Gabriel’s performance at right back 0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has explained his decision to use centre-back Gabriel as a right-sided defender in the 3-1 triumph over AFC Bournemouth, while revealing he was happy with the Brazilian’s contribution.

The Professor raised some eyebrows by deciding to start Mathieu Debuchy on the right flank, and he was in problems as the Frenchman only lasted 16 minutes on the pitch.

And while he revealed that Francis Coquelin was another option to replace Debuchy, Wenger ultimately decided to go for Gabriel Paulista.

“When I picked the squad I imagined that something could happen to Debuchy,” Wenger said at a press conference.
