Wenger expected to shuffle his deck in Europa League opener 0

Posted on September 11, 2017 by Milos Markovic

Arsenal are set to start their Europa League campaign with a match against FC Koln on Thursday night at the Emirates.

The Gunners are beginning their first season without the Champions League in last 21 years with a shot at Europe’s second-string competition and will also face FK Crvena Zvezda and BATE Borisov as they look to top Group H.

The north London side are happy to head into the Europa League clash against FC Koln on the back of the convincing 3-0 win away at Bournemouth, which came as a huge improvement to back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Stoke City.

Arsenal claimed a 2-1 victory at Newcastle’s St James Park on Saturday, with Olivier Giroud scoring a brace and Moussa Sissoko grabbing the Magpies goal.

The game enjoyed a lively start and it was the hosts who threatened goal first on three minutes. Moussa Sissoko broke and found Ayoze Perez, who cut inside the box, only for his effort on goal to be well blocked.

On 13 minutes the Gunners attacked the home side’s goal. A free-kick found Alexis Sanchez at the far post, but the Chilean’s low effort was deflected wide of goal. On 17 minutes, Sissoko headed over the bar, after Gunners keeper David Ospina had come out of his goal.
