Should Arsenal go all out to sign Rakitic and Song? 0

Posted on May 07, 2014 by Crippy Cooke

With Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitting his side’s form in the big away games has cost them the title, should he be looking to sign proven midfield talent to finally turn his side from underdogs into genuine title-chasers?

Seville’s Ivan Rakitic should be a player Wenger has on his shortlist. The Croatian international has enjoyed a superb season on a personal note, scoring 12 goals and making 10 assists from midfield.

The 26-year-old has made 76 key passes this season, more than Arsenal’s chief creators Mesut Ozil (71) & Santi Cazorla (67). He’s created more goals for Seville than any Arsenal player this campaign, and will be reeling with his side having missed out on a Champions League place.

Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic has been linked with a move to top-of-the-table Arsenal, as Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski looks set to be Munich’s first-choice striker as of next season – after having signed on a free transfer. However, the Bavarian club have said Mandzukic isn’t for sale despite the pending addition in attack.

This season, the 27-year old has scored 10 goals from 16 league games – four of which were from the bench. He joined the club from Wolfsburg in 2012, and has been a regular in the starting lineup ever since.
