Real Sociedad have bought out Carlos Vela to erase the buy-back clause attached to his contract, which means he will remain with the Spanish La Liga on a four-year deal.

“This is my home, I am very happy in San Sebastian, there is no place like this, and I told the president that when he asked me about my intentions,” he said. “It would not be easy, but fortunately it has been resolved well and all parties are happy.”

Should Arsenal have used Carlos Vela as a makeweight to sign Antoine Griezmann? 1

With Arsenal now looking likely to cash in on their selling rights for Real Sociedad Carlos Vela (for around £10M) should they be using the Mexican to push through a deal to sign talented winger Antoine Griezmann?

Arsenal are 5/2 to win the race for his signature, but haven’t made a genuine approach for the 23-year-old yet, while the move to relinquish Vela of his attached buy-back clause is gaining momentum.

Vela, 25, has enjoyed a prolific spell in Spain since his move from Arsenal. His goal contributions have been superb for Sociedad, scoring 12 and assisting 7 in 2011/12, 14 & 9 in 2012/13, and 16 & 12 in 2013/14.

According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are set to sell their rights to Mexican striker Carlos Vela for £8.8million and allow La Liga club Real Sociedad to keep the versatile forward. Vela had been linked with a return to north London, with a £3.5million buy-back clause in his Sociedad contract.

The Gunners could also receive £400,000 if Vela’s Spanish side reach the Champions League and £200,000 if Sociedad make it to the Europa League.

According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has travelled to Brazil to check on Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic. The Frenchman has previously stated that he will be at the World Cup this summer for a television channel in his homeland.

Options

With the Carlos Vela will-he won’t he return to the Emirates saga rumbling on, the veteran French boss is looking at other attacking options. The Gunners boss could bring in more than one attacking player this summer and Mandzukic seems like a realistic target.

Why buy-back clauses are an excellent idea 0

Real Sociedad chairman has just confirmed that star player Carlos Vela will be returning to Arsenal this summer, and the fact the Mexican forward will be paid mere £3.5 million when some of Europe’s top sides were reportedly prepared to offer around £20 million for his services speaks volumes about the amount of money a simple buy-back clause can save a club.

Carlos Vela was allowed to leave the Gunners in the summer of 2012 for some £3 million after failing to prove his worth at the Emirates, but seeing as how there was still a possibility of the Mexican developing into a world-class player, Arsenal officials ensured to insert a £3.5 million buy-back clause in the deal taking the forward to Anoeta.

Surely Arsenal re-signing Vela is a no-brainer? 2

According to the Guardian, Arsenal is set to activate the buy-back clause in the contract of Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela. The Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay is believed to have told Spanish radio station Cadena SER: “Arsenal have informed us that Vela would be with them next season.”

Small Fee

The buy-back fee of £3.5million is a very small amount for a player that has just enjoyed probably the most productive campaign of his career so far. The Mexican forward scored 16 goals in La Liga and got 12 assists.

Jokin Aperribay, the Real Socieded president has recently revealed, as reported in the Guardian, that Arsenal’s signing of Carlos Vela will be going through.

“Arsenal have informed us that Vela will be with them next season“, he said on radio station Cadena SER.

With manager Arsene Wenger having put a buy-back clause in his contract for around £3.5M, the London club can have Vela back now he’s matured and learned his trade after being sold to Spanish side Real Sociedad.

Scoring 16 goals and making 12 assists last season has certainly got Wenger’s attention, and the 78 chances he’s created will see Arsenal’s lone striker Olivier Giroud greatly benefit from the good service.

Mexican forward Carlos Vela has all but closed the door on the return to the Emirates by revealing that he did not enjoy his time in English Premier League.

The highly rated footballer has been mentioned as a possible reinforcement for the Gunners, who can still entertain a buy-back clause for a nominal fee, but it appears the 25-year-old will not be returning to England, let alone Arsenal.

And while the two clubs are in negotiations to remove the clause from the player’s contract, Vela has made it clear that he is perfectly happy at Anoeta, while suggesting he was unhappy during his time in England.

Arsenal could be set for a double raid on Real Sociedad this summer. The Gunners have been linked with re-signing their former striker Carlos Vela, but the Daily Mail claim that the Gunners are also looking at renewing their interest in teammate Antoine Griezmann this summer.

Rise

Griezmann has developed steadily at Real Sociedad in recent years and at 23-years of age is starting to fulfil his immense potential. Last season Griezmann scored 21 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions and got three assists.

Reports from various sources have suggested Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela is having difficulty with his proposed move back to Arsenal this summer. The Sociedad president was said to have flown to London recently to discuss with the club about the possibility of quashing the deal as they want to keep him.

The Mexican international, 25, has enjoyed a great spell in Spain since making the move from Arsenal. Vela has scored 15 goals and made 12 assists in the league this season. He has 46 in 125 games for Sociedad and admitted to having a buy-back clause of around £3M.
