Some Arsenal fans may well have criticised Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for his cautious nature over transfers in recent years, but the free signing of versatile Bosnia and Herzegovina defender Sead Kolasinac could be the bargain of the summer.

Kolasinac was the focus of attention for a number of other clubs prior to his free transfer to the Gunners from German club Schalke in the summer. In fact, the likes of AC Milan, Chelsea and Everton were all reportedly looking to sign the defender.

North London club has seen a fair share of German players arrive at the Emirates in recent years and, if the reports from reputable news outlet Bild are to be believed, the German contingent at Arsenal is set to be enlarged during summer.

Arsenal appear to be plotting a summer move for Schalke star Leon Goretzka, who is stalling on signing a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit and is believed to be in for a change of scenery at the end of the running campaign.

Growing list of reports is emerging with claims that head of Arsenal’s Academy Andries Jonker is ready to quit the London-based club for a return to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.

The Dutch former footballer and manager spent two years with Wolfsburg, prior to joining Arsenal in 2014. Jonker worked as an assistant manager to Dieter jecking at the Wolkswagen Arena helping the Wolves to the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal in 2013.

The 54-year-old tactician replaced Liam Brady at the helm of the Academy at Arsenal, but the German media outlet Bild claims that Andries Jonker is now prepared to take the managerial role at the Wolves, who sacked manager Valerien Ismael on Sunday.

It seems that Arsenal may well have made a big mistake in the transfer market last summer. The Gunners decided to allow young German attacking midfielder Serge Gnabry to join Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

While his club are near the bottom of the German top-flight table, Gnabry has been doing more than most to drag them up the league. In fact, on Friday night he scored a brace to help Werder record a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg.

Arsenal have been famous for developing young players in the last two decades under French boss Arsene Wenger. However, there are some youngsters that have had to leave the club to prove their worth elsewhere.

A youngster who left Arsenal just last summer has been impressing in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen. That youngster is Serge Gnabry. The 21-year-old left the Gunners for a fee of just £6million in the summer.

He has since gone on to score seven goals in 15 appearances for Werder and scoring a hat-trick on his international debut for Germany in an 8-0 drubbing of San Marino

For much of the last few campaigns, Arsenal have lacked real steel in the centre of their midfield. Some would argue that French midfielder Francis Coquelin gives the Gunners that particular attribute in the centre of the park.

However, is Coquelin really ever going to develop past his current level? It seems doubtful. He does a decent enough job, but it’s unlikely he will ever be world-class.

Although his future remains in doubt following another frustrating season with the Gunners, Arsene Wenger is tying up the first summer signing for Arsenal.

According to reports from the Bleacher Report, London-based club have agreed personal terms with Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka who looks set to become Arsenal’s firs major signing of the summer transfer window.

Xhaka has been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal in the previous months having revealed he was keen to play in the Premier League and according to the reports Gunners have beaten the competition to the signing of the Swiss international.

According to Sky Germany, Arsenal have agreed a fee of around £34million for Switzerland international Granit Xhaka.

Up-and-coming talent

The central midfielder has impressed immensely in the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach and has been repeated linked with a move to a bigger club this summer. Arsenal have been one of the clubs constantly linked with the star.

The 23-year-old has stated a few times in the media that he would like to play in the Premier League in the near future and Arsenal now looks like a realistic destination for the former-Basel star.

According to reports from Turkish website Fanatik, Galatasaray are interested in signing the Gunners winger Joel Campbell in January. The Costa Rican international has featured in the Arsenal starting line-up in recent weeks due to the Gunners injury crisis.

However, Campbell has failed to shine during his limited appearances with the Gunners. With a number of the injured players close to a return the former-Villarreal loanee is likely to return to the substitute bench, and once again enjoy limited first team appearances.
