With reports suggesting Arsenal are still interested in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender, what would the 25-year-old bring to the club if the Gunners signed him this summer?

Bender last season made 29 German Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen, scoring three goals and making one assist. He made 1133 passes, 2% of which turned into chances on goal.

He made 47 successful dribbles and made more than 100 tackles in the last campaign, averaging a tackle or interception every 16 minutes. He provides defensive stability, with 24% of his league games played amounting to clean sheets.

Arsenal’s long pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender could now be coming to an end after the 25-year-old signed a new deal with the German outfit.

“I signed my new contract until 2019, and that should have told everyone how happy I am at Leverkusen. I feel settled here and see no reason to change anything.”

Bender did also add that he hasn’t particular shone in the Bundesliga this season. He made 28 league appearances for Leverkusen in 2013/14, scoring three goals.

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Gonzalo Castro has been linked to a potential January move to Arsenal.

The 26-year old has made five Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring one goal and making one assist.

‘I could envision myself getting to know another culture and language. That was a goal earlier. I would be the fourth German at Arsenal, that wouldn’t be so bad.’

Castro has missed his side’s last two league games due to injury, but is said to be courted by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger with a view to sign when the transfer window opens in January.
