Now before we get overly excited and enthusiastic, it needs to be pointed out that it is not Kylian Mbappe.

Arsene Wenger revealed Gunners are interested in the 18-year-old hot-shot but that Mbappe is well out of Arsenal’s reach so any hopes we might have of seeing Henry’s heir come to Emirates are dead in the water.

France full-back Djibril Sidibe has snubbed Arsenal to sign a five-year deal for AS Monaco. Arsenal looked set to sign the 23-year-old, but the former Lille defender may well have opted for the promise of regular first-team football and wages reflecting that.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been keen to sound out a long-term replacement for Nacho Monreal, who turns 31 in February, with Kieran Gibbs continuing to be on the periphery, and the versatile Sidibe looked the ideal candidate. Arsenal have also wanted cover at right-back with Mathieu Debuchy available for sale.

With an ageing midfield likely to be depleted in the next 12 months, Arsenal need to find long-term replacements, and Kondogbia has shown he’d be a shrewd signing.

The 22-year-old most notably shone against Arsenal when the Londoners and AS Monaco locked horns in the Champions League last season. Kondogbia was a standout performer as the French club earned an impressive win in the last-16 first leg at the Emirates, before eliminating Arsenal on aggregate.

Wenger admits Monaco elimination is Arsenal’s most disappointing Champions League exit 0

Posted on March 19, 2015 by Crippy Cooke

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted he was most disappointed to have been eliminated from the Champions League last-16 against AS Monaco much more than any of their last five exits in Europe. In the past, the Gunners have fallen short to the likes of AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, but this time round they were drawn against AS Monaco of the French Ligue 1.

Many felt their place in the quarter-finals was already confirmed, and such complacency eventually saw the Londoners humbled over two legs. Arsenal put in a valiant second-half display against their French counterparts, but were out of the competition on away goals, which their long-serving manager admits is the worst exit out of the bunch.
