Surely Arsenal are not really making a move for Dembele?

Posted on March 17, 2018 by David Nugent

According to London Football, Arsenal maybe monitoring Dembele, no not the Belgian midfielder who ambles around so effortlessly at Tottenham, but Barcelona’s young forward Ousmane Dembele.

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in the world game. He only moved to the Catalan giants last summer a deal worth over £90million.

Struggled for game time due to injuries

Unfortunately, for the youngster, he has struggled to make an impact at Barcelona due to injuries. His recent goal against Chelsea in the Champions League was the forward’s first for the Catalan club.

Dembele was brought in as a replacement for Brazilian superstar Neymar. However, he has not really had that many chances to shine. He is just starting to settle into that star-studded Barca team.

Talked about relationship with Aubameyang

One thing factor that has Arsenal fans excited by this potential move is that Dembele has talked about having a good relationship with Gunners striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

He is quoted as saying: “Honestly, I had a beautiful relationship with Auba,”

“Too bad it only lasted a year. For me, a guy coming from Évreux, meeting Aubameyang meant a lot.

“I was pretty good with him. It’s easy to play with a guy like that, he goes fast, he is always well placed.”

As with anything like that social media was soon buzzing with news of a potential move to Arsenal for the highly-rated French international. Aubameyang fanned the rumours by retweeting the comments on Twitter.

Aubameyang was credited with helping Arsenal secure a move for his former Dortmund teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United. The Gunners fans will be hoping in vein that the striker can help secure Dembele’s signature.

Unlikely to happen

This seems like one of those fantasy moves. I highly doubt that that Ousmane Dembele will be heading to north London anytime soon. Barcelona paid a big transfer fee to secure the forward and look unlikely to let him leave so soon.

If the Catalan giants did allow the forward to leave, they certainly would not be taking a loss on selling him. Arsenal do not like to spend crazy amounts of money and £90million would be a big fee for the Gunners.

Barcelona are after looking to sign Antoine Griezmann this summer, but need to raise money. However, Arsenal signing Dembele looks unlikely to be the way that the Catalan giants sign Dembele’s international teammate.
