According to the Metro, Arsenals fans are hoping that the Gunners make a move for former captain Cesc Fabregas this summer. Reports suggest that Fabregas’ boss at Chelsea Antonio Conte will allow the Spaniard to leave this summer.
Fabregas was not always in the starting line-up for the Blues last season, as just 13 of his 29 Premier League appearances came from the substitute’s bench. However, the 30-year-old still managed to produce 5 league goals and 12 assists.
In fact, Fabregas was highly influential in the title run in, grabbing five assists and a goal, which were crucial in the Blues winning the title.
Advantages and disadvantages of signing Fabregas
There are advantages and disadvantages of signing the Spaniard for Arsenal. Fabregas is still a quality player, proven by the number of times he had a big effect on the Chelsea games last season.
His ability to spot a pass and produce killer balls would be very useful to any team. He is the sort of player that Arsenal needs in midfield if Santi Cazorla is out of action. He can dictate play from midfield and create opportunities for his teammates.
The disadvantages of signing Fabregas would be that he is not exactly one for the future, although he is still on 30.
The other would be a massive one, the fact that he left Arsenal in such poor circumstances when he joined boyhood club Barcelona from the club from north London in 2011.
Arsenal fans felt that he had disrespected the club in the manner of his exit. It still leaves a sour taste in some Gunners’ fans mouths to this day. For me, I think bringing Fabregas would be a good move, but his bad exit may prove enough to block any attempted move for the Spaniard.
Arsenal needs quality this summer
Arsenal are major outsiders to win the title next season at odds of 12/1, something which would have been a viable target in recent campaigns. However, without the addition of more quality in key positions, the Gunners are likely to have a battle on their hands to get into the top-four.
I know many Arsenal fans would disagree with me, but I really do believe that Fabregas would be a decent signing this summer. He would give Arsenal the creativity from the centre of the park the team lack at times last season.
Should Arsenal attempt to re-sign Cesc Fabregas?
