Arsenal’s star forward Alexis Sanchez wants to stay at the north London club, according to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.
At his weekly press conference, Wenger said: “I believe that he wants to stay at the club and it is about doing a deal with his agent,”
“The players have to see if they’re happy and find an agreement. Finances are also involved in that.”
Heavily linked with a summer move
Sanchez has been heavily linked with a summer move away from the Gunners, as his contract has just over a year left on it. Arsenal seem unlikely to let the Chilean run his contract down and allow him to leave next summer.
The club needs to either agree to the player’s demands or reluctantly sell Sanchez in the summer and move on. Media reports suggest that Arsenal and the player’s agent are still quite a far way away when it comes to reaching an agreement over a new deal, with the Chilean reportedly demanding £250,000 per week to sign a new contract in north London.
The star has recently been linked with moves to PSG, Juventus and most notably Chelsea after Sanchez was quoted as saying he would like to stay in London and win trophies.
Doesn’t seem like a happy man
Sanchez has not acted like a happy man at times in recent months. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he is not scared to show his frustration at his teammates and manager. He can sulk, but at the end of the day he is Arsenal’s star player and the stats prove it.
More often than not he delivers. His form has dipped in recent weeks, but that has been true of most of the Arsenal players of late. Hopefully, that win against west Ham will spark a revival of sorts.
Sanchez wants to win
You cannot really blame Sanchez for feeling frustrated at Arsenal. The Gunners have stagnated for the last decade. He desperately wants to win games and trophies, just as everybody at Arsenal does. However, he has a choice on whether he sticks with Arsenal or the fans do not.
Sanchez is 28 and in the prime of his career. If Arsene Wenger stays then the team are unlikely to be challenging for the big trophies anytime soon. Unfortunately, I do believe that that will mean the forward moving on in the near future.
