Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed contract talks with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will be in the summer. The two players have less than 18 months left on their respective deals and have stalled on extensions thus far. It was believed Arsenal failed to meet their demands but Sanchez and Ozil might now wait for the season to finish before deciding to commit their future.
Arsenal risk missing out on Champions League football for the first time in Wenger’s tenure at the club, which would almost certainly see the world-class duo leave this summer. And the Gunners boss admitted being unable to come to an agreement with the pair. “At the moment we have not got an agreement,” he said.
“We have decided to focus on the end of the season and talk about it in the summer, it is the same situation with Ozil because once you don’t find an agreement and it (the negotiation) lasts, it is not good so it is better you get it out and sit down in the summer,” Wenger added. Arsenal are 2/1 to finish in the top-four of the Premier League this season, but recent form sees them at great risk of falling outside of the coveted places.
It would be nearly impossible to convincing Sanchez and Ozil that the club can still flourish should the worst happen this season.
